As the Treasury Accountant at SGN you will have responsibility for the accounting and reporting requirements of the Group’s Treasury activities, including accounting for complex debt and derivatives transactions. You will work closely with both Treasury and wider Finance directorate and will have ownership of the accounting processes for bank and Treasury-related general ledger reconciliations. The role will also assist in the implementation and development of the Group’s new Treasury Management System and will support other key workstreams for the Finance and Treasury teams.

How you’ll support us on our mission to keep people safe and warm…
1. Responsible for the accounting of complex debt and derivatives transactions, including interest rate, inflation and cross-currency swaps
2. Conducting high level review of valuation reports provided by external advisors to ensure the timely identification and correction of errors
3. Ensuring compliance with and monitor changes to the relevant accounting standards and regulations in relation to treasury accounting activities
4. Leading and reviewing month-end processes for treasury, including posting of journals, preparing and analysing the monthly interest report and completing bank reconciliations
5. Preparing the treasury sections of full and half-year accounts prepared under FRS 102 and support the annual audit process
6. Monitoring intercompany loan balances and engage with stakeholders to ensure that there are no breaches of covenants, licences or policy limits
7. Assisting new entity set up from a Treasury perspective (initiate the setting up of intercompany loan agreements, bank accounts, GL codes)
8. Monitoring and reconciling all Treasury transactions in the Treasury Management System
9. Supporting Treasury in preparing and processing payments
10. Providing ad-hoc support to the treasury operations team with daily cash positioning activities, including coordinating daily funding positions for all Group entities and the dealing of investment instruments
11. Assisting with the administration of the Group’s e-banking platform, Treasury Management System and 360T/ICD dealing platforms
12. Assisting Treasury with related supplier set-ups and purchase orders
13. Driving further implementation of the TMS modules and other Treasury systems
14. Responsible for Treasury processes improvement and automation driven by the TMS
15. Ensuring accounting rules are properly set up in the TMS to facilitate automatic reconciliations
16. Producing the weekly treasury report
17. Assisting with updating and reviewing the Treasury policy
18. Supporting and updating the bank and treasury mandates for the Group
19. Providing back-up to Treasury Manager and other members of the Treasury team when required
20. Drive the implementation of process improvements
21. Provide support and mentoring to the Treasury Analysts and members of the financial reporting team in relation to any complex Treasury accounting activities they undertake
22. Maintaining intercompany loan documentation
23. Own and produce periodic FX risk analysis, liaising with wider Treasury and Procurement when appropriate
What you’ll need
1. A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, ICAS)
2. Working knowledge and experience in Treasury Accounting under UK GAAP (FRS 102) (especially debt and derivatives, including hedge accounting)
3. Experience with cash management
4. Familiarity with Treasury related disclosure requirements under FRS 102
5. Working knowledge of Treasury Management Systems
6. Ability to partner and influence, challenge and negotiate
7. Ability to communicate fluently in English both written and spoken
8. High attention to detail and ability to work accurately when under pressure and ability to manage tight deadlines
9. Proactive outlook and approach
10. Team player with the ability to act on own initiative when appropriate
11. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
We would prefer if you had relevant industry experience. However, if you don’t have all the qualifications, but think you have other applicable experience that would make you a good fit for the role, we would still love to hear from you.
