An exciting 12 month secondment opportunity has arisen within the Finance Business Partnering team of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic candidate with excellent communication skills, to our Senior Management Accountant role supporting the Surgery and Cancer (SCC) divisional finance team.
The role is a key role which supports delivering month end reporting, forecasting, business planning, analysis and costings for several directorates. The role reports directly to a Finance Manager, deputises for them as required and direct line management and development of a finance placement trainee.
This is a challenging role but offers the right candidate the opportunity to thrive and develop within a supportive finance team, as well as contribute to improving the efficiency and offering of the Financial Business Partnering team function to the organisation.
Overview of the job
To provide analytical support to the Finance/Senior Finance Manager, to identify key issues and trends in financial and non-financial information.
To review accounting entries, prepare journals and provide comprehensive analytical review of the month end position, ensuring the variances are understood and communicated with Directorate leads to take suitable remedial action.
To provide assurance to the Senior Finance Manager of the quality of historic and forecast financial information through completion of analytical review processes.
Main duties of the job
1. The Management Accountant/Senior Management Accountant will work in either a corporate division or clinical division.
2. To provide a high quality analytical service to the Business Partnering Team to support the delivery of an appropriate Financial Risk Rating as determined by the Financial Compliance Framework.
3. To provide assurance to the Senior Finance Manager of the quality of historic and forecast financial information through completion of analytical review processes.
4. To be accountable to the Finance Manager for the adherence to Trust financial policies andprocedures, statutory requirements and requirements from Department of Health, Monitor and the Trust Development Agency.
5. The post holder must be studying toward a CCAB or equivalent qualification, and be fully committed to Continuous Professional Development.

Qualifications & training
Essential criteria
6. Studying towards a CCAB qualification or willingness to study towards a CCAB qualification
7. Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Member or equivalent experience to degree level
Desirable criteria
8. Bachelors degree in any field
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
9. Relevant work experience within the NHS or similar sized organisation
10. Experience of computerised financial systems
11. Knowledge of accounting e.g. processing journals
Desirable criteria
12. Knowledge of NHS finance policy and NHS legislation.
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
13. Accounting skills including financial analysis, reconciliation and simple modelling.
14. Able to type quickly and respond keep up to date with emails
15. Ability to communicate complicated financial information about budgets, and financial journals to non-finance staff
16. Ability to process complex financial transactions through the finance General Ledger system
17. Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, with ability to use Pivot Tables, V-Lookup and other formulae using in analysis of data
18. Able to work autonomously with the skills to make simple decisions independently
