Pelvic Health Specialist Midwife - 22.5 hours per week
This role is offered on a part time basis of 22.5 hours per week, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis.
It is an exciting yet challenging time for the Maternity Services at GWH, as we offer the opportunity to become a Pelvic Health Specialist Midwife.
The Perinatal pelvic health service has been set up to share information to support prevention of pelvic health issues during pregnancy and birth and ensure accessible support, advice and treatment for those with perineal or pelvic floor concerns in Swindon and Wiltshire.
The specialist midwife will work alongside specialist physiotherapists supported by a consultant urogynaecologist, obstetric consultants and community physiotherapists to provide additional support for women who experience pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms or a perineal tear or episiotomy during birth.
To work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to increase prevention of pelvic health injury in pregnancy and birth including supporting the delivery of the OASI bundle, identifying women at risk of pelvic floor injury and providing training and education of staff and service users around pelvic floor exercises. After suitable training, to offer assessment and basic evidenced based intervention for urinary incontinence during pregnancy and after birth.
To work cooperatively with existing services and the Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist to develop and plan pathways, referral criteria, data collection and service evaluation related to the implementation of a new service, adjusting processes as appropriate. You will also work closely with the Psychological Wellbeing Midwife and the Perinatal Mental Health Midwife to ensure that both physical and psychological needs are met.

1. The post holder will run a specialist clinic and workshops aimed at women and birthing people with mild/moderate urinary incontinence and pelvic floor injury.
2. To act as a lead resource for maternity services with expert knowledge of perinatal pelvic health and to provide clinical advice, support and training to staff, mothers and babies and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
3. Develop as the service requires and as implementation is embedded.
4. You will be required to travel to the community maternity units on occasion.
5. To work collaboratively with other professional providing care on the perinatal pathway including Midwives, Health Visitors, Physiotherapists, incontinence Nurses, gynaecology, colorectal and urogynaecology services.
6. To be responsible for implementing and monitoring of any key performance indicators related to perinatal pelvic health provision.
7. To participate in relevant professional or clinical committees internal or external to organisation where required
