Role description: We are looking for a hydrogeologist at the start of their career to work on a wide range of projects across our business. These include large scale infrastructure projects, engineering and environmental projects, landfill and quarry projects as well as water resources projects. We work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. The rate at which we’re seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires, is becoming more frequent. Role accountabilities: As a Junior hydrogeologist you will be an integral member of our UK hydrogeology team whose role is to support in the collection, collation and interpretation of groundwater related data on a broad range of projects. You will be responsible for production of graphics using packages such as QGIS, supporting and working with our dedicated groundwater modelling team and producing discrete sections of reports. You will be supported by a team of around 20 hydrogeologists based across 7 offices with a mixed range of technical experience and years of experience. You will also be supported by a team of c. 500 colleagues in the wider Site Evaluation and Restoration Team. Your Day-to-Day Processing data from site investigations (for example groundwater levels, well pumping records, geological information, chemical quality) and databases (for example topographic data, rainfall data, soil and land use etc.) as required by the groundwater project lead. Assisting the project team in developing hydrogeological conceptual models for use in hydrogeological impact appraisals and/or translation into 2D and 3D models. Presenting outputs in a range of software products, including GUIs, GIS and MS Office applications. Contributing to the production of reports. As and when required to undertake site investigations including water features surveys, site walkovers, drilling investigations, groundwater and surface water sampling and pump testing. Qualifications & Experience: BSc qualified (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Science or similar, or equivalent. MSc qualified in Hydrogeology. Ability to work both independently, within a local office-based team, and within larger multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects to tight deadlines and budgets. Office attendance is highly encouraged to build both technical skills, develop relationships with local team members and provide graduates with a ready support network. Good communications skills - written and oral are essential. A full UK driving licence (preferred). We offer support with training opportunities both internal and external and encourage membership of relevant professional bodies. You will be given the opportunity to attend both informal and formal training courses to further develop your understanding and interest in hydrogeology. There is flexibility as to your choice of location within the UK with preference for the following offices – Bristol, Birmingham, Guildford, Exeter or Cardiff– although for the right candidate other locations will be considered.
