Role Overview
Reporting to the Financial Controller this is a dynamic and multifaceted role offering broad exposure to management accounting activities, with some involvement in financial accounting. As part of a supportive finance team, you will be responsible for preparing and delivering monthly management accounts to board-level stakeholders. Your contributions will be key in providing valuable insights to drive business performance and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts and cash flows, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
2. Perform detailed analysis and reconciliation of accrued and deferred income along with investigation of significant variances.
3. Manage prepayments, accruals, and ensure accurate income recognition.
4. Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure financial accuracy.
5. Detailed reviews of cost centre, P&L department reports and KPIs with stakeholders, helping to identify trends through variances analysis focusing on key metrics. Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive profitability improvements.
6. Overhead Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis of overhead expenditures to support cost efficiency and budgetary control.
7. Analyse performance metrics and KPIs, providing meaningful insights into business performance.
8. Conduct analysis of gross margins, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
9. Review capital expenditure and fixed asset reporting, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
10. Preparation of supporting information for the annual audit.
11. Ensure the business follows all required internal procedures and legislation, internal procedure review and audit of compliance.
12. Contribute to the development and optimization of new processes in the finance system to enhance efficiency.
13. Develop and document new financial policies, processes, and controls.
14. Assist with budget preparation and financial forecasting, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
15. Perform stock reconciliations and variance analysis, providing detailed insights.
16. Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and reporting and other aspects of tax.
17. Undertake ad-hoc reporting and analysis projects as required.
Desired Candidate Profile
1. Proven experience as a Management Accountant, with expertise in accounts preparation, journals, accruals, prepayments, and income recognition.
2. As a minimum part-qualified ACCA/CIMA (with a strong ambition to complete full qualification) or QBE.
3. Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting software.
4. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Power BI or Jet Reports.
5. Experience with ERP systems, particularly NetSuite, is advantageous.
6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and effectively.
7. Strong numerical, financial, and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
8. Capable of working effectively under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
9. A hands-on, adaptable approach to supporting business operations and solving challenges.
10. A positive, proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.
11. Sound commercial awareness and a deep understanding of business drivers.
