The business area: The Gambling Commission uses a range of data, research and insights to inform the decisions that we make and provide advice to the Government about gambling behaviour and the gambling market. This role sits within the research and statistics team who are responsible for the production of official statistics on the size and shape of the gambling industry, rates of participation in gambling, and the prevalence of problem gambling, in both adults and children. In addition, we track wider trends in consumer behaviour, listen to the full breadth of consumer voices, and deep dive quantitatively and qualitatively on key issues, impacts and emerging areas of interest. Our work contributes to the corporate strategy and aims to address our evidence gaps and priorities.

Your responsibilities:
- Design and deliver a range of quantitative research, analysis plans and statistical analyses which contribute towards the delivery of the Commission’s evidence gaps and priorities.
- Designing, conducting and interpreting advanced statistical analyses (such as regression modelling, analysis of variance, chi-square tests etc) and be responsible for determining the best research or analytical approach.
- Responsible for communicating the findings through a range of outputs including written reports, presentations or data visualisations.
- Ability to stimulate, enthuse and create interest amongst others to help embed an evidence-led culture within the Commission.
- Use strong problem-solving skills to advise colleagues on research design, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Communicate research and statistical analysis findings to a range of audiences with varying levels of understanding.
- Understand the stakeholder landscape and be able to identify suitable communications approaches to ensure work is disseminated to the right audience in the best way.

What we’re looking for:
Essential criteria:
1. Strong statistical analysis skills with experience of leading the design and analysis of complex datasets, including longitudinal data and large survey datasets.
2. Good understanding of statistical concepts, research principles and practices, either gained through a relevant qualification, degree or suitable experience in a similar role.
3. Experience of carrying out statistical analysis on large datasets, identifying trends and patterns, recognising and extracting critical factors, and expressing those factors in a range of formats (such as written reports, charts, infographics and other visualisations).
4. The ability to design effective surveys and a good understanding of experimental design methodologies.
5. Advanced use of SPSS for statistical analysis, and demonstrable experience of analysing data from repeated-measures and between subject research designs.
6. Well-developed spoken and written communication skills to convey and present complex data analysis compellingly to a range of audiences.
Desirable criteria:
1. Experience of R, Python, or other statistical packages.
2. Experience of Power BI.
3. Experience of adhering to the Code of Practice for Statistics and official statistics processes.
4. Knowledge of the gambling industry and gambling sector stakeholders.
