Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust are looking for a dedicated Mortuary Technician to join their team. In this role, you will provide essential support to histopathologist's in the postmortem room, ensure the mortuary is kept clean and organised, and strictly comply with all legal and health regulations related to the care of deceased individuals.
The successful candidate will work closely with other anatomical pathology technicians and support histopathologist's at both the Alexandra Mortuary and across the county, providing efficient and effective administrative services. Knowledge of HTA (Human Tissue Authority) regulations is essential for this role.
Main Duties of the role:
* Assist in the receipt and release of bodies, ensuring proper identification is maintained at all times and valuables and personal belongings are logged and stored according to standard protocols.
* Arrange and participate in viewings and formal identifications with relatives of the deceased, coordinating with the bereavement counsellor or family liaison officer when necessary.
* Organize post-mortem examinations in collaboration with the Coroners’ Office, pathologists, or Home Office, as required.
* Support the pathologist during post-mortem examinations, including opening body cavities, removing and weighing organs, recording findings, and performing specialized procedures such as the removal of the spinal cord or corneas when needed.
What you’ll need:
* Minimum 6 months experience working as a Mortuary Technician in UK NHS/ Private hospital setting within last 2 years
* RSPH Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Science (APT) or equivalent
* HTA knowledge
