Lead Dosimetrist
Band 7
Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Radiographer / Dosimetrist to join our Radiotherapy Physics team. The replacement of our fleet of 4 linacs began in 2019 with the installation of 2 Varian Truebeam machines, with the final Halcyon linac becoming clinical in the summer of 2022. The Trust is working closely with local charities to upgrade the Halcyon linac so that adaptive radiotherapy can be delivered to the patients of Staffordshire through Varian's Ethos Adaptive Therapy System. In addition to this, several service developments are planned for the coming year including the delivery of advanced SABR, and expansion of our trial's portfolio. The introduction of these systems into routine use will provide excellent opportunities for personal development.
Main duties of the job
* Provide an efficient and effective highly specialist dosimetry service to the Radiotherapy Department. This will necessitate flexibility in working hours and participation in local “on-call” rotas.
* To produce routine and highly complex radiotherapy treatment plans to prescription and agreed procedures e.g. VMAT, to maximise therapeutic efficacy to the tumour and minimise healthy tissue damage.
* To provide support and advice as required ensuring robust decision making for the verification and daily delivery of individual complex plans.
* To take responsibility in the absence of the Chief Radiotherapy Dosimetrist in all matters relating to the areas they are leading.
* Supervise staff within the RDS demonstrating the initiative, responsibility and autonomy required of a Lead Radiotherapy Dosimetrist.
* To assist the Chief Radiotherapy Dosimetrist by identifying and leading areas for development that will influence the strategic direction of the department to ensure a high quality service at all times.
* Sustain any strategic change or improvement in the delivery of the service as agreed with the Chief Radiotherapy Dosimetrist.
