Compass is the provider of Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in education settings in the city of Derby and Derbyshire, and recently expanding the service into new areas with two new MHSTs in January 2024. We have an opportunity for a Mental Health Practitioner to join our Chesterfield MHST.
Compass Changing Lives ensures Children and Young People (CYP) access the right help, at the right time, in the right setting, MHSTs will remove duplication and avoid CYP/families being bounced in between services.

Main duties of the job
About You
The service supports CYP and families providing extra capacity for early intervention support within school and college settings in three core areas:
1. Providing evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing issues
2. Supporting designated senior mental health leads in each setting
3. Providing timely advice to school and college staff and parents as required
You will need to demonstrate in your application that you have a core MHP qualification relevant to mental health, alongside post graduate experience working with children and young people and an understanding of the principles and practice of CBT and clinical supervision.
You will be knowledgeable and experienced in working with CYP with mental health needs; completing mental health assessments, providing practice supervision and support as well as providing specialist care directly to children and young people and families.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to network with other agencies as central to the role.

Qualifications
Essential
12. Core professional qualification relevant to mental health PMHW, nursing with specialism in mental health or learning disability nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Professional qualification relevant to mental health CBT therapist.
13. Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable
14. Teaching qualification
15. Youth Mental Health First Aid trained
16. Therapeutic post graduate qualification (preferably in CBT).
Experience
Essential
17. Knowledge of educational environments
18. Knowledge of safeguarding issues
19. Knowledge of capacity and consent issues including Gillick competence
20. Experience of working with children and young people, their families and others
21. Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders
22. Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties
23. Experience of working with anxiety disorders
24. Experience of working with affective (mood) disorders
25. Experience of the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people or their families ( CBT, solution focused brief therapy
Desirable
26. Knowledge of the functional operation of specialist Children and Young Peoples Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing services teams
27. Experience of working with children and their families in a healthcare setting
28. Experience of working with children and their families in an education setting
29. Experience of monitoring and recording outcome measures for childrens emotional wellbeing
30. Experience of navigating complex social systems and environments, who may have conflicting priories or agendas
31. Experience of working with looked after children
32. Experience of working with other vulnerable groups

33. Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with children
34. Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with families
35. Ability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness within staff group
36. Ability to conduct mental health assessments of children and young people
37. Ability to make an assessment of risk and to record and communicate it appropriately
38. Ability to take appropriate action to mitigate or manage risk
39. Excellent oral and written communication skills
40. Excellent time management and organisational skills
41. Access to own transport or evidence of ability to commute efficiently between community venues
42. Ongoing commitment to maintain registration in core profession
