Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the provision and development of clinical pharmacy services to our adult medicine specialities within unplanned care at SJUH, including our A&E departments at LGI and SJUH. You will lead and line manage a team of clinical pharmacists that are responsible for clinical pharmacy across a range of specialities (SDEC same day emergency care, A&E, diabetes, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, cystic fibrosis, infectious disease, care of the older person, acute medicine).
You will develop strategic plans and staffing requirements for pharmacy services to these areas.
You will develop and manage the delivery of pharmacy services to ensure efficient use of resources and systems including monitoring drug expenditure and delivery of financial savings. You will be responsible for the provision of information to CSU's regarding clinical and financial governance, and issues around service delivery and future developments.

JOB DETAILS: Clinical Pharmacy Team Leader
JOB PURPOSE: To manage a team of pharmacists delivering specialist clinical pharmacy services to specified Clinical Service/Support Units (CSUs) within the Trust. To be the first point of contact, and support for the CSUs, on all matters relating to pharmacy.
JOB DIMENSIONS: Provide expert opinion, both within and outside pharmacy, to ensure the safe and effective delivery of drug therapy to defined clinical areas.
Provide pharmaceutical professional leadership for defined clinical areas by liaison with pharmacy operational services and key members of the CSU. Be responsible for professional leadership for specified area of Trust e.g. locality hospital.
The post holder will also perform the role of a lead clinical pharmacist to a defined clinical area. In this role, the post holder will ensure medicines are used appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively in accordance with Trust policy, standard operating procedures and medicine legislation. The post holder is expected to determine how the outcomes are best achieved in specific circumstances.
Manage a team of specialist pharmacists providing clinical pharmacy services to the defined clinical areas and CSUs.
Responsible for the provision of information to the CSUs regarding clinical and financial governance, and issues around service delivery and future developments.
Responsible for the co-ordination of training for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals on aspects of drug use within defined clinical specialities.
Provide a minimum of at least one session of professional supervisory cover in the dispensary, aseptic dispensary, Medicines Information Department or other related activity. The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis.
To act as the responsible pharmacist in line with local procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Masters qualification in Pharmacy (4 years), or equivalent qualification, plus 1 year pre-registration training.
Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience or qualification.
Significant post-registration experience as a practising clinical pharmacist, including two years as a specialist pharmacist in an area relevant to the post. Ability to demonstrate competency in the six areas required for RPS Faculty advanced levels of practice, independent of the sector of practice.
Proven ability to have successfully dealt with highly complex clinical and managerial issues which required the pharmacist to analyse and formulate a response, based on a range of sources, some of which may not be in agreement. In these situations, it may be necessary to find a novel solution to an unusual clinical or managerial situation. The pharmacist will have developed negotiating and persuasive skills when interacting with other clinical team members, hospital managers, patients, and relatives.
Experience of dealing with a wide variety and grade of hospital staff on a regular and ongoing basis, including senior medical and managerial staff.
Specialist knowledge of a clinical area/department which demonstrates ability to manage a caseload, preferably within the clinical speciality.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. Provide pharmaceutical care to a group of patients in various specialities on a rotational basis. Be responsible for ensuring that the legal and statutory requirements in relation to medicines are met and ensure that the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients in the defined clinical area meets both national and local standards.
2. Provide professional pharmacist cover on a sessional basis to inpatient and outpatient dispensaries, Medicines Information, Aseptic services and Mental Health, in order to meet legal requirements.
3. Participate in the dispensing and checking of clinical trial materials.
4. Participate in documenting of prescribing and administration near misses (interventions).
5. Pharmacists who are registered as prescribers will, with the agreement of the clinical director of the speciality, prescribe within their level of competence, to support patient care.
6. Assist clinical colleagues in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the informed, economic use of medicines.
7. Assist clinical colleagues with horizon scanning activities for new treatments and products in the relevant area and with submissions to the Drugs and Therapeutics committee.
8. Assist clinical colleagues in the provision of accurate financial and risk-management data to the appropriate Clinical Management Team for the speciality.
9. Participate in the provision of Education and Training activities for all pharmacy staff.
10. Participate in research and development programs and audit within pharmacy services.
11. Receive prescription payments from patients where appropriate.
12. Participate in the department's late night and weekend working arrangements.
