Are you an experienced Site Manager from a Carpentry Background with a passion for heritage conservation and restoration?
We are seeking a Site Manager to oversee the delivery of specialist restoration and conservation projects up to £1m across historic and listed buildings in Somerset. This is an exciting opportunity to join a company dedicated to preserving the UK s architectural heritage, working on a diverse range of restoration, stonework, and conservation projects.
The Role Site Manager
As a Site Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest conservation standards. You will lead site teams, coordinate specialist trades, and ensure compliance with heritage and conservation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and oversee conservation and restoration projects, ensuring high standards of craftsmanship.
2. Supervise site teams, subcontractors, and skilled tradespeople, ensuring safe and efficient project execution.
3. Plan and schedule resources, materials, and labour, ensuring timely project delivery.
4. Ensure strict adherence to heritage conservation guidelines, building regulations, and health & safety standards.
5. Work closely with clients, conservation officers, architects, and surveyors to maintain strong working relationships.
6. Conduct regular site inspections, ensuring quality control and problem-solving as required.
7. Monitor project budgets, timelines, and risk assessments, reporting to senior management.
8. Maintain detailed site records, reports, and progress updates.
What We re Looking For
1. Proven experience as a Site Manager within conservation, restoration, or traditional building sectors.
2. From a trade background - Ideally Carpentry.
3. Strong knowledge of historic building methods, stonework, and conservation techniques.
4. Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
5. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience overseeing multiple trades.
6. Strong understanding of health & safety regulations, including RAMS and CDM regulations.
7. A proactive and solutions-focused approach to site challenges.
8. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
9. SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid qualifications (preferred but not essential).
