Hospital Contract Executive

Full time permanent - 37.5 hours per week
From £50k per annum dependent upon experience and qualifications

quality and patient experience, and maximise value for our members.
The Hospital Contract Executive plays a key role in managing contracts with
and performance of a number of Bupa’s hospital providers. The Executive is
accountable for developing effective provider relationships, negotiating robust
contracts, ensuring contract compliance, ensuring quality of services provided
and maintaining effective cost control for the hospitals they manage. The
Executive will play a crucial role in delivery of healthcare reform initiatives
that impact on their hospitals and support delivery of initiatives across all
providers on behalf of the wider Operations and Healthcare Management
team
How you’ll help us make health happen:
1. Accountable for contracts with and performance of circa 10 to 30
2. Hospital providers comprising circa £1m to £50m spend pa.
3. Support Senior Hospital Contract Manager in managing performance and contracts with larger providers.
4. Build effective relationships with hospital providers necessary to ensure delivery of Bupa’s goals.
5. Agree and manage provider specific relationship development plans that reflect Bupa strategic priorities and provider goals.
6. Consider provider proposals for development of new services and approve where appropriate.
7. Routinely review hospital costs and performance identifying, escalating and resolving emerging issues with the provider and then within Bupa if issues cannot be resolved.
8. Conduct effective negotiations and tenders with hospitals to deliver agreements that meet Bupa’s strategic goals, financial targets and maximise value for Bupa members.
9. Secure sign off for contract renewal proposals / plans and negotiated contracts in line with governance framework.
10. Establish robust contracts and pricing schedules with hospitals that allow Bupa to effectively manage costs, quality and patient experience.
11. Manage contracts with hospitals ensuring both Bupa and hospital obligations are met.
12. Proactively identify risks in hospital contracts and ensuring that effective controls are put in place and monitored to manage over risks over time.
13. Working with Contract Assistant, ensure that all charge code screening
and compliance controls are approved and in place.
•Work with the Claims Processing team to ensure that hospital invoices
comply with the contract, non-compliant charges are highlighted to
providers, payment adjusted accordingly and that hospitals correct
issues at source.
•Satisfactorily resolve contractual queries and disputes identifying
accounting provisions required for any potential commercial settlement of contractual issues.
14. Maintain accurate records of all provider meetings, negotiations and disputes.
15. Develop productive working relationships with colleagues in Hospital Management, the wider Operations and Healthcare Management team.
16. Participate in shaping and delivering healthcare reform initiatives on behalf of the wider Operations and Healthcare Management team.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
17. Experience of healthcare desirable or other complex, multi service line environment essential.
18. Analytical and commercial. Works with large data sets to identify trends, issues and opportunities and to model impact of solutions on customers and the business.
19. Systematic approach to managing own workload, prioritising competing demands from multiple stakeholders.
20. Track record of successful delivery of performance improvements with third party providers.
21. Strong written and oral communication skills, explaining complex issues clearly and concisely, presenting compelling arguments / proposals using fact based evidence and research.
22. Builds effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, able to challenge constructively and resolve conflict / issues productively.
23. Experience of negotiating contracts with third parties.
24. Forward looking. Able to identify risks, issues, opportunities early and develop and then deliver effective solutions.
25. Educated to degree level or equivalent practical experience.
