The successful candidate will act as strategic lead for the delivery of risk, insurance, and claims management – including resources – for the Council and our external clients, ensuring we remain relevant to current and future risks. Our Head of Risk and Insurance should be someone capable of providing excellent leadership within a climate of continuous improvement, positive change, and value for money. As a key member of our service leadership team, you should be passionate about maximising performance and contributing toward the Council’s strategic objectives and commitments, particularly in relation to risk and insurance management. The post holder will have a key responsibility to act as a trusted and dependable advisor to members and senior managers across the organisation on all matters relating to risk and insurance. You should also have an ability to provide relevant assurance on the arrangements in place for the proper administration of the authority’s risk management, insurance, and claims management services, in line with best practice and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have: A sound understanding of the insurable risks facing a modern council and best practice approaches to addressing them Expert knowledge and understanding of local government risk management frameworks Extensive experience of producing and presenting risk information to senior stakeholders Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills in a risk management and insurance setting Our offer to you: 35 hour working week with a hybrid working model At least 31 days holiday, plus bank holidays, rising to 35 after 5 years’ service (with an option to purchase further days) Agile working - A “Flexibility First” approach to agile working where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception.
