We are recruiting for a Senior Business Development Manager. This is an exciting and challenging role within an enthusiastic, hardworking and growing Commercial team. The role is crucial to NMIS’s growth ambitions and is focussed on strengthening business growth and industrial impact in key sectors and capabilities set out within a developing NMIS Strategic Business Plan. NMIS is a magnet for innovation in advanced manufacturing and we are seeking dynamic and proactive applicants for this role to help identify and partner with key industries and organisations across Scotland, the wider UK and globally, helping them achieve their productivity, competitiveness and growth ambitions.
Reporting to the Head of Business Development & Strategy in NMIS you will identify and support new business opportunities that will lead to the development of partnerships with a range of stakeholders, including large corporates, SMEs, scale-ups, the public sector, academia and Scotland’s Innovation network. You will initiate, develop and grow relationships with key industry sector players, to support the successful launch and delivery of small, medium and large funded innovation and R&D projects and programmes in Manufacturing.
More than one of these roles is being recruited, to substantially strengthen NMIS’s Business Development capability. The roles will either be capability focused and aligned to our capability-based centres, in particular:
The Advanced Forming and Forging Centre (AFRC)
The Digital Factory (DF)
The Lightweight Manufacturing Centre (LMC)
Or sector based and aligned to our key target sectors:
Aerospace
Security and defence
Energy transition, in particular offshore wind
Space
Power electronics and semiconductors.
We are seeking candidates with relevant, demonstrable Business Development experience across one or more of the capabilities and sectors above. We also require applicants to be educated to a minimum of Degree level in a discipline relevant to the role, which may cover Engineering, Manufacturing, Physical Sciences or Business Studies.
You will have experience of proactive engagement with a range of industry stakeholders at different levels of seniority in organisations of different scale. You will have developed research proposals and have experience writing succinct business reports and presentations suitable for industrial customers. Practical experience of industry-led research or innovation projects and associated funding routes is required and you will have experience of translating industry needs into R&D opportunities, proposals or projects. An ability to quickly appreciate and translate the technical capabilities of NMIS at a relevant level to current and new stakeholders is important for the role.
We are looking for individuals who are knowledgeable of the Scottish and UK manufacturing sectors and have experience of identifying and securing opportunities and funding. The ideal candidate for this role will have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. They should be self-motivated and outcomes driven and have experience of working in collaborative situations.
