Salary: £77,400 Closing date: Tuesday 4 February 2025 Contract type: Permanent The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy, and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships. We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health. Wellcome’s Discovery Research programme exists to support the generation of new knowledge that could transform life, health and wellbeing in ways we can't always anticipate today. We fund researchers across fields, disciplines and career stages, in both the UK and Lower-Middle-Income countries. And we're changing how research is done, through improved tools, technologies, methods and research culture. The Discovery Research (DR) team works to manage and develop our portfolio of activities which includes individual researchers and teams supported through our funding schemes, as well as the world-leading institutes and initiatives we support through a more targeted approach. In 2023/24, we spent £910 million on research, across the breadth of our remit. Our funding supports thousands of researchers across the world and part of our role is to find ways to forge partnerships and networks with established and new research and funding communities. Wellcome has a rich history of supporting physical and digital technologies to advance scientific discoveries and improve health. The Discovery Research programme at Wellcome places emphasis on the development of tools and technologies, both as a catalyst to underpin innovative research programmes and as platforms and enablers for research for the wider research community, ensuring community needs, equitable access and uptake and capacity building, as appropriate. Our investments in bioimaging ( HERE ) serve as an example of our approach. We are now looking for a Senior Manager, Tools & Technology to join our team. This includes current opportunities, partnerships, initiatives, as well as future opportunities for growth to deliver on DR’s and Wellcome’s mission. Develop new areas of investment and engagement opportunities for Wellcome, both to develop new tools and technologies for health-related research as well as approaches to (globally) sustainable funding models for technologies and research platforms. Ensure that both action and communication of our activity in this space is coordinated across Wellcome and the research ecosystem to help ensure we are clear on the progress and barriers that need to be addressed and rely on evidence to guide our action. Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments. To be successful in this role you will have: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels, including networking and influencing. Significant expertise in a research setting, with excellent knowledge of the current state of and trends in digital and physical tools & technologies applicable to health-related research.
