We are looking for a full time Dispenser/Prescribing Clerk to join our very busy team.
You will be based at Coltishall Medical Practice where we have approximately 9000 patients and dispense to 3800 patients. You will need an NVQ Level 2 Dispensing Qualification, or be willing to undertake the training for this qualification.
Both departments are busy so you will need to be able to prioritise, work well under pressure, stay calm and be able to work alone and part of a team.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities for the Dispensing role:
* Ensure the smooth running of the department keeping in line with the Standard Operating Procedures
* Dispense repeat and acute medication within the time frame
* Deal with patients at the front desk with a high level of customer service
* Dealing with ordering of stock ensuring the best profitability to the practice
* Cleaning of the Dispensary shelves and ensure all stock is in date.
* Keep records of any stock which will be expiring
* Collect any prescription charges where necessary
* Ensure the exemption declarations are filled out correctly on the backs of the prescriptions
* Ensure drug alerts are acted upon within the time frame
* Check fridge temperatures daily and ensure stock is kept in the correct conditions
* Fully understand and adhere to the legal requirements of the Controlled Drugs in the practice
For the Prescribing Clerk role:
* Input medication requests from patients over the phone, by e-mail, via the NHS App
* Dealing with queries from patients/pharmacies/Community Nurses/Hospital
* Ensuring patients medication review appointments are up to date.
* Checking the relevant checks (bloods/blood pressures/weight) have been completed before the review appointment

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
* That enquiries from patients are efficiently and courteously handled
* To maintain all prescription records on computer
* That prescriptions are dispensed accurately and promptly according to Practice policy
* That the dispensary premises are kept tidy
MAIN DUTIES
* Being aware at all times which doctor is on call, his whereabouts and knowing which doctors are working at any given time
* Answering general enquiries within limits of knowledge, confidentiality and experience regarding medication dispensed, referring to GPs, Pharmacists, or Pharmacy Technicians where applicable
* Receiving patients following consultations and dispensing prescriptions as necessary
* Issuing patients repeat prescriptions in a timely manner as set out in the Standard Operating Procedures
* Forwarding any queries to the appropriate doctor
* Recording any outcomes from queries in electronic medical record
* Scanning processes complete the checking procedure for repeat prescriptions, but in the event of equipment/software failure these checks should be completed by other dispensers
* To order and maintain satisfactory levels of drug stocks according to practice policy
* To order and maintain satisfactory stocks as advised by nursing team in treatment room
* Ensuring controlled drugs are recorded and maintained in accordance with practice policy
* To order all containers, closures, boxes and bags for dispensary
* Ordering drugs at the most competitive prices
* Checking delivery notes and invoices where appropriate
* Checking expiry dates of incoming drugs
* Prepare and check medi wallets/support systems for patients with second dispenser. Liaise with and complete relative forms for Medicine Support Services as required.

* Ensuring that prescriptions are counted ready to be sent away at each month end
* Ensuring the back of prescriptions are correctly completed by the patient
* Collecting and reconciling prescription charges ready for banking
* Collection and processing money from private prescriptions
* Liaising with practice and district nurses and other members of the team regarding dispensary matters
* Ensuring the dispensary shelves are dusted and expiry dates are checked on at least a monthly basis discarding drugs past their expiry dates on a regular basis
* Ensuring the dispensary area is left tidy and ready for use by incoming colleagues together with information about any unresolved or urgent matters
* Participate in making tea/coffee for other members of staff and washing up
* Locking fridge at the end of each day
* Undertake end of day procedures
* Complete the end of day cashing up.

* To take phone calls between a designated time (9am 5pm)
* To check Docman on a daily basis
* To check Footfall on a daily basis
* To check tasks on a daily basis
* To ensure all patients have had a yearly medication review sending invites/reminders
* In preparation of the medication review appointment ensure all relevant blood tests, blood pressure, weight checks have been booked
* Print off all ICE forms (blood test forms) for the following days phlebotomy appointments
* To participate in team & coffee making for the team

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ2 in Dispensing or Pharmacy Services (or be willing to study for)
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent including Mathematics and English
* Competent in computer systems including Microsoft Word & Excel
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public
* Good communication & interpersonal skills
* Flexibility to cover annual leave and sickness
* Ability to use own judgement and show initiative
* Experience in working within a health care setting
* Ability to work within a busy and changing work environment
