About the role:
We have a brand-new opportunity for a Senior or Principal Power Systems Engineer to join our HV team based in any of our UK offices. It's an exciting time to join our HV team, which has a proven track record in Infrastructure and Mission critical system data centre projects across the UK and Europe. You will be joining a collaborative, knowledgeable, and highly engaged team who offer a supportive, flexible, and high-performing work culture.
In this key and varied role, you can expect to:
1. Be responsible for day-to-day technical delivery and design calculations for assessing electrical loads on buildings, sizing utility connections, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, and renewable technologies, along with associated earthing and distribution systems design services for multi-disciplinary projects.
2. Produce design deliverables including specifications, drawings, and schedules. This includes design and calculations of substations and points of connections from LV to HV, as well as undertaking load flow, fault level, G5/5 harmonic, and protection studies.
3. Work on earth rise touch and potential studies.
4. Interact regularly with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a communicative, collaborative, and timely approach to delivery.
5. Support timely invoicing, debt chasing, management of WIP, and resource planning for your projects.
6. Mentor and support our ‘next gen’ professionals including apprentices and graduates.
About you:
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
1. Proven experience as a Power Systems or HV Engineer, with a track record of delivering on complex projects.
2. Experience with modern technical delivery processes and relevant software/tools such as BIM, Revit, CAD electrical ETAP, Amtech, or EOM.
3. Familiarity with power systems high voltage substation design, earthing arrangements, CT calculations, arc flash calculations, differential protection, and stability slopes.
4. Ability to model complex networks and run advanced power systems studies using LV system analysis software.
5. Capability to undertake studies for G99 export applications, including harmonics.
6. Experience in producing schematic designs, fault discrimination studies, preparing specifications and reports, and conducting site inspections of surveys and detailed design development.
7. Ability to carry out studies such as G5/5 harmonics, load flow, fault studies, transient studies, and protection coordination studies.
8. Further experience in network resilience analysis linked to failure modes and single points of failure would be beneficial.
9. Demonstrable experience working with clients, contractors, and architects in a design-oriented/consultant role.
10. Self-awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity.
11. Experience in supporting others to develop knowledge, skills, and confidence.
