Engineering Masters Scheme
Permanent Employment with fully funded Masters Degree
Package: £31,000 + Fully funded 1-year MSc programme
Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.
Your permanent AWE role will be based at Aldermaston. For the duration of your MSc studies however, you will be temporarily based on campus at the university delivering your MSc, occasionally visiting Aldermaston for short periods during your studies.

If so, the Engineering Masters scheme is an ideal launch pad for your career. The scheme has been established to create and develop our future engineering specialists. It allows new staff to attend a full-time MSc in a focused field of engineering whilst taking up a specialist role in one of our on-site delivery teams in Berkshire.
About AWE
AWE Nuclear Security Technologies are at the forefront of nuclear technology. Our innovative work keeps the UK safe and secure through:
* Mitigating the threat from nuclear terrorism and nuclear accidents
* Designing, developing, manufacturing and maintaining the current Trident nuclear warhead
* Undertaking the development of the UK's future warhead (Astraea) in support of the UK's nuclear deterrent capability
* Designing, building and maintaining unique nuclear manufacturing facilities
Who are we looking for?
This scheme is ideal for people who are:
* A few years into their post-graduate engineering career, perhaps as part of a formal graduate development scheme
* Recent graduates who have not yet found an Engineering role
* Due to graduate in 2025 with an engineering or science degree
Requirements for application
You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE.
* The nature of our work means you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for at least the past 10 years
* You must have, or be predicted, at least a 2:2 degree in an engineering or science subject
* Ability to start employment at AWE on 1st September 2025
For 2025/2026 we are recruiting across the following 4 engineering specialisms:
Advanced Manufacturing
* Contribute to the development of novel and very high accuracy fabrication techniques.
* Plan and conduct high-consistency processing and manufacturing of a range of materials and components using both cutting-edge and legacy assets
* Full-time 12-month MSc in Engineering and Management of Manufacturing Systems (EMMS) at Cranfield University (Bedfordshire).
Construction Management
* Manage the design and delivery of new, cutting-edge, high-hazard, safety-critical facilities and the upgrade of legacy facilities.
* Interact with stakeholders across the business, contractors and wider partners during very-long-term build programmes
* Full-time, 12-month MSc in Construction Management at the University of Reading.
Control and Instrumentation (C&I)
* Contribute to AWE's facilities and manufacturing capabilities by conducting project work in a range of areas: control panel design, Interlock Systems, Safety Instrumented Systems design and verification, Plant Alarm systems, Process Instrumentation, Electronic Security Systems, Electromagnetic Compatibility, software, software-based devices for safety systems
* Support maintenance design, planning, delivery and documentation for installed C&I assets
* Full-time, 12-month MSc in Applied Instrumentation & Control at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE)
* Develop wide-ranging EEE skills to become a highly versatile asset across AWE's Engineering business
* Hone a deep understanding in a number of niche skills relevant to specific work areas, such as pulsed power
* Full-time 12-month MSc in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University

Contractual Terms
Whilst your Masters degree course fees will be funded by AWE, there will be payback clauses for those who do not complete the course or leave the company within a specified period.
