PLANNING LAWYER | INTERNATIONAL LAW FIRM | CITY OF LONDON
An international law firm with a strong presence in the City of London is seeking an experienced Planning Lawyer to join its expanding team. The Planning team forms an integral part of the wider Real Estate division and has grown significantly in both size and reputation. The team is frequently instructed on complex and high-value development and infrastructure projects for clients including household names, major developers, listed organisations, and governmental bodies.
THE ROLE:
You will become part of a wider national and international network of named experts. You will benefit from structured development, unparalleled support, and exposure to a range of significant projects. The work is varied and of exceptional quality, with a particular focus on:
- Housing and urban regeneration
- Major London developments
- Energy and transport
- Planning litigation
The team has experienced substantial growth, advising on landmark projects across London and the UK. Collaborating closely with the wider Real Estate division, you will engage with household names, listed organisations, and major developers. The firm is committed to nurturing talent, providing ongoing training, mentorship, and opportunities to progress within a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing strategic planning advice, including guidance on complex issues such as Hillside developments.
- Drafting and negotiating planning and highways agreements for large-scale urban development projects, including housing, mixed-use, office, and logistics schemes.
- Reviewing planning applications, including environmental impact assessments.
- Advising on town centre compulsory purchase orders and compensation claims.
- Managing public inquiries and representing clients in planning disputes.
- Offering advice on public law matters, including vires, administrative law, and the exercise of powers.
- Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to deliver comprehensive and innovative solutions for clients.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualified Solicitor with at least 5 years PQE in planning law.
- Strong experience advising on major planning and development projects.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage complex matters and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A passion for delivering strategic advice on high-value projects.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support junior team members.
