Breast services in Leeds offer a range of diagnostic, surgical, therapeutic, and support services, from several sites, to patients referred from a population of some 900,000. Current and significant experience in the surgical management of breast disease is a prerequisite for this post. The appointed candidate will join a surgical team of 5 established consultants. The Unit manages about 11,000 new referrals and provides care for about 700 cancers (symptomatic and screening) annually.
The team provides all oncoplastic procedures including reconstructions. The wider team includes:
1. 3 breast plastic surgeons,
2. 5 substantive and 1 locum consultant breast radiologists,
3. 5 consultant breast pathologists,
4. 2 breast clinical (+ 1 experienced associate in clinical oncology),
5. 3 medical oncology consultants,
6. 7 breast care nurses,
7. 4 breast research nurses,
8. 3 family history nurse specialists,
9. 6 ANP/PA team,
10. secretarial team and MDT coordinators.
There is very good management support. The team provides all forms of reconstructions and has a high volume of free flap reconstructions, approximately 70 annually.
The appointed candidate's majority of clinical work will be at the St. James's University Hospital site. There will be a 1 in 6 commitment to perform joint cases at the Leeds General Infirmary site with the Plastic Surgical Team. An overview of Service activity is demonstrated below. The Team delivers approximately 844 theatre sessions per annum equating to approximately 1360 operations per year and 714 clinics.

1. New Attendances per annum: 12,431
2. Follow Up Attendances per annum: 6,974
The Unit has a very active research portfolio and regularly recruits into several ongoing clinical trials. The Unit has a very good teaching record and regularly hosts National Oncoplastic Fellows.
