Job Title: Control System Design Engineer
Location: Colchester, Essex (commutable from Ipswich, Cambridge, and Chelmsford)

Role Overview:
We are seeking a Control System Design Engineer to join our team in Colchester. The role involves designing, developing, and testing industrial automation control and safety systems. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of control system design, including electrical engineering, PLC programming, testing, and on-site commissioning of both new and existing systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Control System Design: Develop complex designs, detailed layouts, mechanical design, and wiring schematics for safety/control systems using AutoCAD.
Hardware & Software Engineering: Engage in both hardware and software design engineering to ensure the successful implementation of systems.
PLC Programming: Write and develop code for PLCs, particularly Allen Bradley Rockwell systems.
Project Review: Review project specifications to determine requirements and ensure designs meet project needs.
SCADA & HMI Design: Design and develop SCADA systems and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
Testing & Validation: Perform testing and validation of both hardware and software systems to ensure functionality and performance.
Simulations & Optimisation: Optimise designs via simulations, testing, and development processes.
Customer Interaction: Participate in design and technical meetings with customers and stakeholders.
On-site Commissioning: Oversee on-site commissioning of new systems across the UK and internationally.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
AutoCAD: Proven experience with AutoCAD (required prior to hiring).
PLC Programming: Experience in PLC programming, especially Allen Bradley or equivalent.
Systems Development: Experience in systems, software, and hardware development for control and safety systems.
Educational Qualifications: Degree in Control, Automation, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
SCADA & Safety Systems: Expertise in PLC/SCADA system design and development, including safety-critical systems.
Industrial Communication Protocols: Knowledge of industrial communications (e.g., ProfiBus, Ethernet, DeviceNet).
Emulation & Simulation: Experience with emulation and simulation software is a plus.
Effective Communication: Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Travel: Willingness to travel both within the UK and internationally as required.
Rail Industry Knowledge: Experience in the rail industry is advantageous
