The Technical Buyer will play a pivotal role in supporting the indirect procurement needs of the organisation, focusing on areas such as Research & Design, Prototypes, Development, as well as providing production support on a variety of commodities. The Technical Buyer will also lead the procurement activities for the newly launched initiative, Project M-LightEn. Funded by the UK government, this innovative, AI-driven, design and development project aims to enable decarbonisation across the wider automotive industry. The role will require proactive approach to sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships to ensure cost-effective, high-quality, and timely procurement of goods and services. Key Responsibilities Procurement & Strategic Sourcing Source and procure goods and services to support prototype-testing activities, R&D, and other related areas. Ensure procurement activities align with company objectives, including cost, quality, and delivery targets. Identify and communicate risks to supply, taking a proactive approach to mitigate risks and prevent disruption to the companys operations Develop and maintain a robust supplier base to meet operational requirements. Identify, present and implement cost reduction opportunities through strategic sourcing initiatives. Monitor market trends and competitor strategies to identify risks, potential new suppliers and opportunities for innovations and competitive advantage. Collaborate with cross-functional internal stakeholders to forecast demand and provide commercial advice to support informed decision-making and alignment with procurement strategies. Oversee and manage the procurement of materials to support production, including fasteners, consumables and paint and wrapping raw materials. Recommend improvements to optimise workflows and efficiency, striving for continuous improvement. Supplier Relationship Management Own, build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure continuity of supply. Conduct supplier evaluations and performance reviews to ensure compliance with quality and delivery standards. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to achieve cost savings and value for the organisation. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Essential 5 years procurement experience, preferably within the automotive or manufacturing industry. Ability to read engineering drawings Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems Detail orientated with high levels of accuracy Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients Must be a team player Desirable CIPS qualified, part-qualified or willing to work towards Degree or equivalent in an engineering or adjacent field ADZN1_UKTJ
