This is a Band 8a post, however, applications will be considered from those more recently qualified for appointment at Band 7 as a preceptorship post.
Appointment at band 7 preceptorship level will include:
1. A professional and clinical development plan to support the post holder to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required at band 8a.
2. Dedicated funding to support continuing professional development.
3. A review of the post holder's knowledge skills and experience at 18-24 months and where appropriate interview for progression to a band 8a position.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, developing service which has a systemic underpinning, offering NICE concordant systemic therapy for eating disorders as its core intervention. You will provide specialist multi-disciplinary assessment and expert clinical interventions to children and adolescents with eating disorders, and their families.
The growing specialist multi-disciplinary team is made up of psychiatrists, nurses, systemic psychotherapists, clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists, a consultant paediatrician and a dietician. Team working is held at the core of the service with a range of processes to ensure individual clinicians feel supported in their work, including weekly team meetings and case discussion, systemic case consultation, and the opportunity for joint working with more complex cases.
Main duties of the job
1. To offer assessment and evidence-based psychological therapies for young people with an eating disorder and their families.
2. To facilitate psycho-educational parents groups and other groups.
3. To work with co-morbidities, using formulation driven care-planning.
4. To implement behavioural management plans.
5. To offer consultation to colleagues in other services.
6. Support management of ROMs and audit.
7. To hold a case load and act as case manager.
8. Supervision of other qualified clinical psychologists and trainees, assistant psychologists, psychology placement students and volunteers.
9. Attend all multi-disciplinary meetings and care planning reviews and contribute to thinking about young people and their families from a psychological perspective.
Suitable applicants will have experience in a CAMHS setting and have good knowledge and skills related to NICE concordant treatments for eating disorders and common co-morbid disorders such as OCD, depression, and anxiety. In addition, applications from clinical psychologists who have an interest in systemic working, and/or experience of working with children and families with complex needs or with safeguarding concerns would be welcomed.

Job responsibilities
1. To provide highly specialist clinical psychology services to children, young people and their families/carers providing evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment in line with NICE guidance.
2. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a child or young person's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients' problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
3. To offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care. To work within Trust and professional guidelines.
4. To support the Departmental clinical governance structure through the provision of clinical supervision in relation to specific modalities of psychotherapy and by providing clinical input to supervisees' PADRs.
5. Within supervision, team meetings and other fora, to support and promote the use of measures within the CYP IAPT framework to evolve clinical practice and enhance user experience.
6. To seek opportunities to include service user perspectives in how services are delivered.
7. To utilise research skills for practice evaluation and service development, as required by the service and set out in the job plan.
8. To work with the CAMHS Eating Disorders Service Professional Lead for Psychology and Psychotherapies to lead the work of a particular aspect of service provision.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
1. Qualified Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist under the domain of Clinical Psychologist OR Qualified Systemic Family Psychotherapist registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) via the College of Family Couple and Systemic Therapy, and post-graduate qualification in relevant mental health/social welfare profession with demonstrable practice over a minimum of four years.
2. Evidence of continuing professional development.
3. Post qualification training in the clinical supervision of trainees.
Desirable
1. Training as part of a CYP IAPT collaborative in a recognised evidence-based approach.
2. Formal training in the supervision of a psychotherapeutic modality.
3. Further training in a recognised evidence-based psychological therapy.
Experience
Essential
1. Consolidated experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, and in-patient settings.
2. Consolidated experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
3. Demonstrate further specialist training and experience by having received a minimum of 50 hours of clinical supervision of working as a specialist psychologist or psychotherapist over a minimum of 18 months.
Desirable
1. Experience of working with eating disorders.
2. Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
3. Experience of service development or of a leadership role.
