Interim Principal Litigation Lawyer – London - £60-65 per hour – Hybrid Working
Position: Interim Principal Litigation Lawyer
Organisation: London-based local authority
Duration: 3-6 months with possible extensions thereafter
Working Pattern: Full time hours
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working with office attendance once a week
Hourly Rate: £60-65 per hour (Umbrella)
Venn Group’s specialist public sector legal team are recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority based in London, who are in need of a Interim Principal Litigation Lawyer to lead and guide the litigation department.
The role is offered on an initial 3 months basis with a high likelihood of extending up to 6 months, with subsequent extensions possible. This position will lead the litigation department which comprises Civil, Criminal, and Employment lawyers.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Barrister, Solicitor, or Legal Executive (CILEx) with a proven track record of successfully managing a litigation department within Local Government, which is essential for this role.
Duties shall include:
* Handle complex litigation and regulatory law matters: Lead on high-stakes litigation cases and regulatory issues, ensuring legal risks are managed and outcomes align with council objectives.
* Lead the council’s defence preparation: Coordinate the council’s defence strategies, including gathering evidence and preparing legal documents to ensure robust representation in legal proceedings.
* Advise members and senior management on governance: Provide clear and strategic legal advice on governance issues, helping ensure decisions meet legal standards and best practices.
* Willing to take on licensing committees: Actively participate in licensing committees, offering legal support to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and fair decision-making.
