The James Paget University Hospital is seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics. The appointee will work within the Department of Paediatrics, based at the James Paget University Hospital which includes inpatient, neonatal, outpatient and ambulatory areas. The position provides an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified specialist to actively contribute to the further development of a modern Paediatric service within this highly regarded Trust with its wide range of acute and community services, which will afford high professional visibility.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Commitments
The department operates a Full Shift rota. Current rota is 1 in 7. The specialty doctor will be doing one weekend in every 7 weeks. They will also be doing a total of 7 nights in a 7 week cycle.
The Specialty Doctor will take part in the Middle Grade Rota which is a full shift system. He/she will:
* Be responsible for Paediatric and Neonatal admissions and ward care, as per the duty roster.
* Undertake ward rounds independently but with consultant supervision.
* Attend consultant ward rounds as appropriate.
* Participate in Paediatric clinics.

Job responsibilities
Details of other duties
* Supervision and teaching of training grades and other staff in practical procedures.
* Teaching, supervision, induction and support of Specialty Trainees (ST) and other staff, including participation in the ST training programme and teaching of Medical Students.
* Responsibility for the organisation of the junior staff duty rota and ensuring adequate cover is available during periods of absence by negotiation with ST colleagues and liaison with the consultant responsible supervising rota arrangements and Medical Personnel.
* Maintain effective communication with General Practitioners and other hospital departments.
* Participate in Clinical Audit and guideline development.
* So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties the postholder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCPCH Part 1
* MRCPCH Part 2
* EPLS
* NLS
* Training in Child Protection
* Community Child Health and/or sub specialty
Experience & Knowledge
* At least 3 years' experience at Specialty Trainee level or higher, with two years' experience in the specialty.
* Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within the specialty.
* Experience in Acute Paediatrics.
* Willingness to extend knowledge by continued education.
* Experience in Community Paediatrics.
Academic Achievements
* Experience of conducting clinical audit.
* Willingness of using evidence base to support decision making.
* Familiar with the principles of Risk Management.
* Understands principles of Clinical Governance.
* Experience in teaching Junior Medical Staff.
* Involvement in research projects, audit and published papers.
* Formal training in teaching skills.
* Experience in teaching Medical Students.
