About the team and the role
This Insight Manager role is responsible for directly supporting the Operations and Transformation team. They will have regular prioritisation sessions with these teams but will also work closely with the Customer and Commercial teams.
Operations
The Operations team has three primary purposes:
1. Working with Ocado Group to deliver operational KPIs across the Supply Chain, Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs), and Service Delivery
2. Drive operational continuous change to benefit either the customer and/or deliver financial savings
3. Acts as the ORL stakeholder within Operational projects led by OL where ORL dependencies exist
Transformation
The Transformation team’s primary purposes are:
4. Managing ORL’s Transformation program
5. Leading on Transformation Projects (topics that are complex in nature and require large change across multiple functions)
What you’ll do
6. Lead and develop a team of 2-5 Analysts.
7. Form a strong working partnership with the head of operations, chief customer officer, and forecasting lead.
8. Develop area expertise to drive understanding of factors driving customer demand, and operational performance, and help shape Ocado's long-term network and Operations strategy
9. Look for and develop tools to automate decision-making and enable self-serve
10. Lead projects that drive business improvement
11. Contribute to the development of best practices and support sharing them among the wider Insight team.
12. Support with ad-hoc requests often as outputs from Trade discussions or where other functions within ORL have an activity that has an operational lens to it
Example Projects
13. Set slot availability in different regions of the country taking into account the additional service delivery costs and lost orders from customers who don’t purchase due to poor availability
14. Set up a trial to assess the incrementally of offering customers same-day delivery and provide a recommendation to the CEO on what our same-day delivery service should look like
Work with the commercial team to identify high-purge SKUs and develop a process to reduce purge without damaging availability
15. Work with teams at ORL and OG to analyse customer refunds and provide recommendations on ways to improve the customer experience
16. Work with the Network Development and Commercial Teams to identify areas of future capacity constraints and provide recommendations on potential options to resolve
17. Collaborate with the Ocado Data Science and Commercial team to automate the selection of substitute products, trial this process and evaluate it before rolling it out.
Who you are
Essential:
18. Strong experience as an analyst
19. Experience in presenting analytics-driven output to wide-ranging audiences
20. Proven experience of data mining using SQL
21. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high degree of independence. The ability to forward think on what is needed and react effectively to unforeseen risks/issues/questions without needing lots of support is a must
22. Build close working relationships across teams within Ocado Retail and Ocado Group with an ability to influence at all levels. This includes being able to quickly understand operational metrics that are owned by Ocado Logistics
23. Ability to drive projects forward and deliver to plan
24. Exceptional stakeholder management skills
25. The ability to communicate and influence at all levels
26. Excellent Excel skills
27. Numerate or Technical Degree (2:1 and above)
28. Mathematics A Level (or equivalent) Grade A or above
29. Ability to prioritise and balance immediate work against longer-term priorities
30. Experience with data visualisation software such as Tableau
Preferred:
31. Experience in a retail, e-commerce or FMCG consumer-facing business
32. Familiarity with Google’s wider data ecosystem (e.g. Google Cloud Storage, AutoML)
33. Knowledge of VBA
34. Experience of R or Python
