This role will focus on:
To lead, encourage and motivate team members in accordance with the relevant specifications, procedures and quality standards related to their roles.
To provide leadership and supervision for the team members; supporting staff development through training, mentoring and regular one to one meetings and appraisals to achieve and maintain high performance and compliance to relevant standards.
To ensure high quality standards are reinforced and maintained. To manufacture product to meet customer delivery dates in a timely manner.

Safety
* First Aid Certified.
* Actively report near misses and support activities to deliver improvements.
* Work alongside the Department Leader to close out EHS concerns.
* Ensure compliance with company and regulatory EH&S requirements.
* Ensure complete awareness and involvement of personnel in environmental, safety, health and ergonomic improvement processes.
* As a member of the Aflex management team, passionately lead our #1 priority: health, wellbeing and safety of our colleagues, contributing to the creation of a strong safety culture.
* Perform daily health and safety checks.
* Perform a weekly safe Behaviour Audit to reinforce safe behaviours.
* Track EH&S metrics and conduct EH&S updates with the team on a monthly basis.
* Issue a monthly safety bulletin and a daily safety checklist for the team.
* Setting and operation of machine tools in a safe and efficient manner.
Customer Focus
* Think about what your customer requires and anticipate their future needs.
* Consider your internal customer and pass the ball in a way that can catch.
* Monitor the manufactured output from the department; ensuring that output is in line with the master production schedule.
* In collaboration with the Department Leader, ensure that quality issues, process problems, labour shortages and machine breakdowns are reacted to quickly and the appropriate actions are taken promptly to resolve.
* Support and promote 6s activities within the workshop.
Excellence
* Proactively build capability and cross skill staff to support future growth and new product introduction.
* Support GEM and EHS improvements within the department.
* Define and produce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that support business continuity.
* Record and monitor scrap levels and implement necessary actions to ensure that KPI targets are achieved.
* Conduct shift start up and shift end meetings.
* Review previous days down time sheets.
* Implement countermeasures on non-conformance.
* Amend and countermeasure production plan.
* Review labour overview.
* Undertake improvement planning.
* Review overtime requirement.
* Undertake shift review near end of shift.
* Analyse downtime sheets and review the shift with the Department Leader amending plans for next day as required.
* Provide training and mentoring for operators and apprentices as required.
* Manage unplanned absence, lateness, track attendance, conduct return to work meetings and escalate issues to the Department Leader.
* Address discipline issues in accordance with company policies and procedures.
* Proactively address performance concerns and conduct issues; escalating to the Department Leader and HR in a timely way where it is evident that usual management procedures have not resolved issues.
* Conduct performance reviews in-line with the company annual performance review process.
* Conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings with team members.
* Assign team responsibilities.
* Support new employees through the induction process, completing required paperwork.
* Reinforce operator ability to halt production to avoid escalating EH&S, Quality or other issues.
* Keep department notice boards up to date.
* Manage the holiday plan/rota.
* Ensure that all documentation is completed as required and in a timely way.
* Create opportunities to develop your own skills, knowledge and experience.
* Always try to find the root cause of problems to better understand how we can improve.
Collaboration
* Find ways to make sure everyone feels included in the team.
* Ensure that positive and productive relationships are maintained within the department and with suppliers and customers.
* Ensure that the correct quality controls and measures are adhered to; supporting the quality team on RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) as required.
* Engage with the maintenance and facilities team to ensure the equipment and environment are maintained to the highest standards.
* Ensure the shift handover has taken place.
* Attend weekly/monthly operations meetings as required.
* Participate in the recruitment process as required.
* Review colleague ideas and suggestions with a view to viability and implementation.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Exposure to Lean manufacturing experience, ideally yellow Belt, or above.
* Working within a NEBOSH, COSHH or IOSH environment.
* Experience of 5S or 6S processes.
* Ability to investigate nonconformance and assist in root cause analysis.
* Experience of leading and managing people.
* Resilient and the ability to work in a high-pressure work environment.
* Ability to communicate effectively across a diverse group of people.
* Highly motivated with a focus on solutions.
* Minimum of apprentice training City Guilds, NVQ Level 4 or time served in a directly related discipline.
* ILM or NVQ 4 in managing people (or working towards) or equivalent experience.
* IOSH– Managing Safely.
* IT skills – excel and word programmes.
