The role
At SSE Thermal, we are committed to shaping the future of energy and driving low-carbon solutions. As the Head of Grid Services, you will lead the strategic grid activities for a wide range of exciting projects across the UK and Ireland. This is a key leadership role, where you’ll have the opportunity to influence decisions, lead a team of specialists, and drive growth through efficient grid connections and innovative grid services.
We are looking for a visionary leader with deep technical knowledge and experience in grid management, as well as the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.

You will
1. Lead and represent SSE Thermal in all grid-related activities, engaging with national grid and network owners and operators.
2. Manage ongoing connection agreements to ensure optimal performance of our key generation assets.
3. Influence senior stakeholders and drive successful commercial and technical outcomes for the business.
4. Oversee the design and delivery of optimal grid solutions for the development teams.
5. Ensure compliance with relevant grid and distribution codes and manage key risks.
You have
1. Extensive experience and deep understanding of transmission and distribution regulations, codes, and governance.
2. Proven ability to lead on complex, high-stakes projects and deliver within budget and schedule.
3. Highly commercially aware with strong contract negotiation skills and industry expertise.
4. In-depth technical knowledge of electrical and gas system infrastructure, with a keen interest in CO2 transportation, storage, and hydrogen technologies.
5. A strong communicator and leader, with the ability to build relationships, grow teams, and influence at all levels of the organisation.
