Brief Description
Network Rail are looking for a civil/structural engineer with asset management experience to join one of our key assurance divisions along the Wessex Route in the Southern Region. This is a diverse role that will make use of your engineering background (other disciplines also considered) and contribute to the ongoing safety of Network Rail's extensive and historic estate of operational property assets.
The role covers the Wessex Route (South/Southwest England) and your head office will be based in London Blackfriars.

About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities
1. Manage the asset stewardship and inspection of operational property building fabric assets in accordance with asset policy and technical strategy, recommending remedial and renewal works and maintaining comprehensive history records within our asset management system.
2. Schedule examinations, inspections, monitoring and assessment of assets, together with maintenance, repair and reactive works.
3. Specify and prioritise actions to address defects, comments and other issues raised in the reports, in accordance with standards and functional policy, for inclusion in work plans. Oversee the development, implementation and handover of prioritised work items to enable required outputs to be realised. Produce route-specific and asset-type management regimes and progress mitigations if items are deferred. Track high priority orders to completion, updating systems and providing reports as required.
4. Undertake engineering analysis and risk assessments of assets or asset components to support the asset management process and scheme development, including business cases and whole life cost analysis.
5. Develop and assist with the management of prioritised maintenance and renewal requirements, workbanks and plans in accordance with the technical asset management strategy and budget.
6. Monitor and evaluate asset condition and capability trend data, and failure precursors to inform examination, maintenance, strengthening, risk mitigation and renewal plans to efficiently achieve corporate objectives.
7. Provide support to the specification and development of enhancement schemes and manage the interface with network capability programmes.
8. Provide support to Senior Asset Engineers and the Buildings RAM as required and instructed, with regards to Assurance, Governance, Review, Scoping and Record/Reporting Items.
9. Maintain asset data and information within the company systems and processes.
10. Assist with the monitoring of statutory maintenance, testing and regulatory obligations on all asset bases, liaising with outside parties and stakeholders as required.
11. Assist with the review proposals from other disciplines or external organisations that could impact on the region/route assets and/or programmes of work to identify potential synergies or conflicts.
12. Monitor the technical development of projects, ascertaining that renewal requirements are sufficient, correctly interpreted and any changes are agreed. Assist with the approval in principle of designs and support acceptance of detailed design certification.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
1. HND/HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
2. Significant relevant experience of civils asset management
3. Knowledge of policies and standards relating to operational property and structures
4. Accreditation with a relevant professional institution (ICE or IStructE) or working towards membership.
5. An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
Desirable
1. Sound railway background and knowledge of railway geography.
2. Knowledge of policies and standards relating to operational property.
3. Knowledge of asbestos risks and management.
