Join a globally renowned technology leader in North Somerset as an Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer and lead innovative mechanical design solutions for state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.
Reporting to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager, you will oversee a talented team of engineers, managing projects from concept through to customer commissioning and field trials. This role offers the chance to deliver safe, compliant, and high-quality solutions on time and within budget, working closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, manufacturing, service, and customer representatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and inspire a team of approximately six mechanical engineers, fostering collaboration, setting clear objectives, and holding regular 1:1 meetings to ensure project success.
Champion best-practice mechanical engineering to optimise project delivery in terms of time, cost, quality, and compliance, ensuring robust technical governance for safety and reliability.
Allocate and manage work packages across cross-functional teams, guiding projects through to production and completion.
Ensure designs meet stakeholder requirements and comply with relevant regulations, directives, and standards.
Mentor engineers, supporting their professional development, including training and pathways to professional registration.

Qualifications & Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering ; Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards registration with a recognised engineering institution .
Accreditation or formal qualifications in Functional Safety
Experience
Extensive mechanical engineering and design experience in a relevant industry (Essential).
Strong knowledge of product safety and compliance in regulated environments, with familiarity with standards such as EN 61511 and safety/design review methods (e.g., PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA)
Proven expertise across the full product lifecycle, from concept to production.
Commitment to continuous professional development through training and other opportunities.
Proficiency in design for manufacture, cost, assembly, maintainability, and related principles.
