Job Summary
The Bid Manager is responsible for the bid process for large-scale offshore wind projects in the sales phase of the project life cycle. This role involves managing competitive bids, proposals, and tenders from initial assessment through to submission, ensuring alignment with both industry standards and company strategy. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the offshore wind market, project management expertise, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams to secure profitable contracts.
The Bid Manager will interface with customers and support the Sales Director in aspects of PSA (Project Supply Agreement), EWA (Early Works Agreement), and TSA (Turbine Supply Agreement) negotiations.
Key Responsibilities:
Bid and Proposal Management:
• Lead the end-to-end bid process for offshore wind projects, ensuring all submissions are timely, accurate, and of the highest quality.
• Analyse RFPs, RFQs, and tender documents specific to the offshore wind industry to develop tailored bid strategies.
• Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, technical, financial, legal) and external partners to gather critical inputs for proposals.
• Develop, update, and manage a repository of bid templates, case studies, and industry-specific content.
• Ensure compliance with all client specifications, regulatory standards, and company guidelines in bid submissions.
Strategy and Market Analysis:
• Conduct in-depth market research and competitor analysis within the offshore wind sector to enhance bid strategies and success rates.
• Identify key differentiators and innovative solutions that highlight the company’s expertise in offshore wind technologies.
• Develop comprehensive risk assessments and mitigation strategies for complex bids.
Stakeholder Coordination:
• Engage closely with subject matter experts, project managers, and senior leadership to align bid proposals with strategic objectives.
• Organize and lead bid review meetings to consolidate feedback and ensure all stakeholder requirements are met.
• Maintain effective communication with potential clients, regulatory bodies, and industry partners throughout the bidding process.
Financial and Contractual Oversight:
• Collaborate with finance teams to develop competitive pricing strategies and detailed cost estimates that reflect the unique demands of offshore wind projects.
• Review contract terms and conditions, ensuring identification and mitigation of potential risks.
• Monitor compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks governing offshore wind projects.
Post-Bid Analysis and Reporting:
• Track and analyse bid outcomes, success rates, and client feedback to continuously refine future proposals.
• Conduct post-bid debriefings and document lessons learned for ongoing process improvements.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all bid activities and related documentation for future reference and audit purposes.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in bid management, proposal writing, or business development, preferably in the renewable energy or offshore wind industry.
• Strong project management and organizational skills with a proven track record of managing complex bids.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to present complex information clearly.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and bid management software/tools.
• Solid understanding of procurement processes, tendering, and offshore wind project requirements.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Expert user of P6, a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
• APMP (Association of Project Management Professionals) certification or equivalent.
• Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Renewable Energy, Marine Engineering).
• Experience working with offshore wind farms, including familiarity with technical specifications, regulatory frameworks, and environmental considerations.
• Familiarity with bid tracking tools and software.
Working Conditions
* Primarily office-based in the UK (Glasgow or London), hybrid work with frequent travel to manufacturing sites, overseas, and offshore locations for audits and inspections.
