Client Group: Independent Special School
This school is an Independent Special School for young people aged 4-19 years with autism who may have additional learning difficulties and behaviours that challenge. This role is part of an in-house transdisciplinary team of OTs, Behaviour Analysts, and Speech and Language Therapists.
Please note, this position is not suitable for newly qualified Occupational Therapists.
Key responsibilities:
1. Providing occupational therapy support to children and young people aged 4-19 with complex autism, learning difficulties, and challenging behaviours.
2. Collaborating with a trans-disciplinary team to ensure each pupil's needs are understood, effectively planned for, and closely monitored.
3. Advising the teaching team on pupil development to achieve optimal outcomes for each child and young person.
4. Delivering both direct and indirect therapy to individuals and groups of pupils.
Qualifications and Training:
1. Recognised Occupational Therapy degree/qualification.
2. Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) license to practice.
3. Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (ROCT).
4. Postgraduate training in Sensory Integration.
Skills & Knowledge:
1. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
2. Ability to communicate a vision and inspire others.
3. Ability to build effective working relationships.
4. Demonstrable experience of understanding and a personal commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
5. Proven ability to translate evidence-informed practices into practical programmes of support for fine motor, gross motor, and sensory needs.
