Introduction
The Graduate Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for assisting in effective management of day-to-day health and safety activities across allocated works locations, ensuring that legal compliance and safety best practices are upheld. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the GHSA will support the implementation of health and safety policies, participate in safety initiatives, and help maintain a positive safety culture. In situations where there is uncertainty, or recommendations are challenged, the Graduate HSA will seek clarification, guidance, and support from departmental line management.
Job Description
1. Lead by example, contributing to a collaborative and positive safety culture where health, safety, and wellbeing are prioritised.
2. Be empowered to intervene when unsafe conditions or behaviours are observed, taking appropriate action to manage immediate risks while ensuring support is sought from departmental line management for further clarification where needed.
3. Promote and uphold a safety-first culture by adhering to and supporting Keltbray’s HSQE policies, procedures, and standards.
4. Actively engage with site teams to gather feedback on health and safety issues, encouraging proactive participation in safety practices while ensuring clarification from senior management on complex issues or challenges.
5. Assist in executing Keltbray’s health and safety strategy by working closely with operational teams and supporting safety-related initiatives.
6. Assist in identifying and managing health and safety risks, escalating concerns and uncertainties to the Health and Safety Manager for guidance.
7. Support operational teams in reviewing and maintaining project H&S related documentation seeking input from more experienced departmental peers when necessary.
8. Assist in conducting routine safety inspections under the guidance of departmental managers, monitoring compliance with safety standards.
9. Address unsafe conditions as they arise, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and recorded, while seeking clarification from departmental management on more complex or ambiguous safety issues.
10. Assist in the investigation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions helping to identify root causes, and support the implementation of corrective and preventative measures under supervision.
11. Maintain accurate records of all health and safety activities, including inspections and incident reports, ensuring they are shared with line management for review.
12. Provide regular updates to the Health and Safety Manager regarding health and safety performance, including incident statistics, trends, suggestions for improvement, and successes, seeking advice where needed to ensure accuracy and compliance.
13. Be approachable and responsive to operational teams, while also ensuring that any challenges or concerns raised by the workforce are communicated effectively to departmental management for further clarification or resolution.
Requirements
Qualifications:
1. Occupational Health and Safety / Construction Management Degree
2. NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety
3. CSCS Card
