Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Music to oversee and manage the academic and co-curricular music provision at Stamford School. Music is one of our core co-curricular pillars here at Stamford, ensuring that our students can discern their pathway academically as well as developing key transferable skills outside the classroom.
The Director of Music will be responsible for oversight of both the academic and co-curricular music, providing a vision for the development of music and ensuring that the department continues to be known both locally and further afield for its high standards of teaching and performance.
The Director of Music will be pivotal in ensuring that the highest standards of progress and achievement are consistently embedded across both the academic and co-curricular strands of the Music department. This will involve enabling and encouraging high levels of participation in music across both Senior and Junior Schools, managing a large and talented department, and leading from the front, both in the classroom and in our highly regarded concerts and recital series.
This post will suit a teacher and musician who can enthuse and engage with pupils of all ages and abilities, who knows when to take the spotlight and when to step back, who understands how Music fits into the life of a busy school, and who can lead and manage both staff and pupils to achieve the highest possible standards.
The successful candidate will have experience of teaching in a school of similar standing and will have the ability to motivate and enthuse both staff and pupils alike. He or she will have proven ability to direct choirs and other ensembles at all levels from Key Stage 2 to Sixth Form, drawing on a range of techniques and strategies, and demonstrating a thorough knowledge of appropriate repertoire.
The appointee will possess the skills required to organise a complex department and provide the necessary opportunities for music whilst ensuring smooth relations with the rest of the school. He or she will also have the personal qualities necessary to lead and manage a large department of able colleagues. The new Director will be able to provide new initiatives and ideas to raise the profile of music, whilst understanding the role that a music department plays in a busy school.
It is likely that the successful candidate will hold a good honours degree in music, be a competent keyboard player and computer literate.
Stamford Schools are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
