Role We are looking for an experienced Payroll & Pensions Specialist to play a key role in delivering an efficient, accurate, and customer-focused payroll and pensions service. Reporting to the Payroll & Pensions Deputy Manager, you will be responsible for processing monthly payroll, managing pension reporting, and ensuring compliance with payroll laws and regulations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise who is ready to take the next step in their payroll career within a higher education environment. Key responsibilities include; Accurately processing monthly payroll, ensuring timely submission of payroll and pension reports; Serving as a key contact for payroll-related queries from employees, HMRC, and third parties, delivering clear and effective solutions; Supporting compliance by keeping up-to-date with legislative changes, and ensuring processes meet statutory requirements; Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and recommend process improvements for payroll and HR systems and Assisting with service delivery reporting and deputise for the Payroll & Pensions Deputy Manager when required. Ideal Candidate You will bring proven experience in payroll processing, with in-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, tax, and pension schemes (including TPS, LGPS, USS, and UCRSS). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables) and experience with integrated HR and Payroll systems (e.g., SAP, iTrent, or Oracle) are essential. You’ll have exceptional attention to detail, a calm approach under pressure, and the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
