The job itself
The Risk Management Team is responsible for embedding the East Riding Risk Management Strategy across the organisation and ensuring that the Council is in the best possible position to respond to emerging threats or opportunities which could impact on the Council's strategic objectives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Council's lead risk management officer in providing advice and guidance to managers in identifying risks, assessing and evaluating their impact and helping to determine the most effective methods of responding to them. A large part of the role will be ensuring that a continuous cycle of improvement is embedded into processes to develop the risk maturity of the organisation.
Other responsibilities will include assisting with the identification and monitoring of strategic, service and project risks and the production of risk reports to senior management and Elected Members. The post holder will be responsible for supporting with and running various risk workshops (horizon scanning/ identification), training sessions and producing a range of guidance and promotion documents to support risk owners across the Council. Other tasks will include providing support to run regular risk health checks, risk maturity assessments, questionnaires and facilitate discussions with the internal risk network. The successful candidate will also be expected to keep up to date with the relevant risk management information, news and trends from national and global sources.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the risk management process, experience of using or awareness of risk management techniques and feel comfortable delivering workshops and training to groups of people. Experience of developing risk registers, knowledge of the three line of defence and an understanding of public sector services would be ideal however is not essential.
The Risk Management Team works with a range of services across the Council so someone who is professional, calm, logical and able to deliver key messages and guidance to senior management would be ideal for the position.
Training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
The role will continue with a blended working approach between predominantly home working and the office.
