Full job description
Professional Responsibilities:
1. Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
2. Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence.
3. Act as a supportive professional role model for midwifery, providing midwifery care in accordance with the NMC Midwives rules and codes of practice.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide care to women and birthing people coming through the Maternity Outpatients Service, including clinical care, emotional support, and advice on screening tests.
2. Relay blood test results to appropriate clinicians and patients, taking necessary actions.
3. Ensure the booking/referral pathway is effective and identify areas for improvement.
4. Ensure GAP/GROW charts are correct for each individual and appropriate pathways are followed.
5. Organise and run the Anti D clinic, Birth after caesarean (BAC) clinic, and diabetic services alongside other midwifery team members.
6. Demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for women, birthing people, and their babies.
2. Provide expert advice on the referral of women and birthing people to high-risk care.
3. Develop parent information and education opportunities for women and birthing people receiving care.
4. Ensure effective communication between clients, relatives, carers, and colleagues.
5. Promote the wellbeing and safeguarding of children and young people.
Clinical Governance:
1. Ensure that Clinical Governance standards are upheld in the antenatal services pathways.
2. Identify, assess, and report on risks (clinical and non-clinical) within the Directorate risk register.
Service Development Implementation:
1. Participate in Preceptorship and Mentorship within the clinical settings.
2. Attend updates and refresher study sessions and mandatory study days.
Information Resources:
1. Input information and have a working knowledge of the hospital information systems.
Research and Development Responsibilities:
1. Participate or lead in multi-disciplinary developments, projects, and audits.
Personal Skills:
1. Maintain personal professional profile including evidence of professional development within midwifery.
2. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
