Job Duties
The Creative Services & Digital Media Coordinator will serve as a key member on Norfolk State University Athletic Department external operations team providing creative content in the areas of video production, photography, graphic design, social media, and publications. The Creative Services & Digital Media Coordinator is the point person for creative content creation and effective execution of overall content and video production strategy across all aspects of the athletics department. The Creative Services & Digital Media Coordinator is responsible for creating dynamic and engaging content to promote the NSU Athletics brand. Oversees video editing and overall brand vision through digital platforms. Provide oversight and strategic direction of videography endeavors including, features, and interviews, as well as the department's social media. This person will work on assigned feature projects, working in tandem with communications and marketing to handle content creation for athletics.
The Creative Services & Digital Media Coordinator will play a lead role in the video storytelling of Norfolk State University Athletics. This position will conceptualize, film and edit professional videos to use on multiple platforms, including the NSU athletics website and athletics social media channels accounts to include but not limited to Instagram, Twitter (X), Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc.. The Creative Services & Digital Media Coordinator will serve as the lead for video production and photography and will interface with various internal and external constituencies including, but not limited to, student-athletes, coaches, University and athletics administration, and external media outlets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Film, edit and produce video features on NSU student-athletes/teams, recap videos from games/competitions, and for special events (press conferences, awards ceremonies, etc.).
• Assist with the direction and production of preseason video shoots for teams and creation of entrance videos for video board use during games.
• Create, edit, publish and share daily digital content for all platforms (e.g. social media channels, website, digital network) that expands the department’s brand, presence and exposure, student-athletes and coaches and supports key initiatives.
• Work closely with the other key Athletics personnel on planning and executing department-wide social media strategy.
• This person will recruit, train, recruit and manage student staff to assist in the office and at events.
• Maintain an ongoing understanding of industry trends, innovative platforms, and emerging media in a rapidly changing profession.
• Assist with department video stream as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• Prior experience utilizing social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) for communications, marketing and business purposes.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or comparable editing software.
• Superior organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to develop strategy through a collaborative team-based ideation process and execute plans in a timely manner while balancing multiple projects.
• This position requires travel along with availability to work on weeknights and weekends.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to carry a camera for an extended period of time, as well as moving and assembling items such as tripods, lights, shades, etc.
• Must be willing Exposure to weather elements during outdoor events.
Additional Considerations
• 3+ Years proficiency in content creation for social media strategies and implementation across various digital platforms
• Experience in college athletics, professional sports or any other sports environment in a content creator role.
