Section Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile project in Aberdeenshire, where you will play a key role in the construction of a new HVDC converter station as part of the UK's single largest electricity transmission project.
The project involves the creation of a 525kV, 2GW, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission cable running from Peterhead, Scotland to Drax, North Yorkshire.
Key Responsibilities
* Communicate effectively with site management, technical specialists, commercial staff, planners, engineers, supervisory staff, operatives, suppliers, third parties, and client representatives.
* Maintain high personal standards in health and safety, environmental awareness, and behaviour.
* Drive quality delivery through effective planning and right-first-time delivery.
* Lead, supervise, and mentor site engineering staff.
* Monitor and record delivery against the agreed programme and construction methods.
* Maintain good working relations with the client, designer, supply chain, and others.
* Ensure that drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works before commencement.
* Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to meet the programme.
* Ensure that works are accurately and clearly set out before work commences.
* Confirm by recording in writing, on the same day, any verbal instructions received from the client/designer/client representative.
* Ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on all works are maintained.
* Ensure that Inspection and Test Plans and checklists are in place and followed at the appropriate stages.
* Complete daily diary records and ensure they are also being maintained by others under your supervision.
* Prepare "look ahead" programmes in conjunction with the supervisory staff, coordinated with overall site programme.
* Monitor and report progress against "look ahead" programmes.
* Ensure written risk assessments and activity plans/method statements are in place prior to works commencing.
* Ensure that COSHH assessments are in place for materials to be used and that the requirements are being followed.
* Identify, record, and report changes to the scope of works or programme.
* Ensure that testing/sampling of materials is carried out as required by the specification.
* Record and report Non-Conformances and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
* Ensure that materials and workmanship meet the specification and maintain appropriate records and proofs.
* Ensure work records are being kept and in line with the project requirements.
* Undertake performance and development reviews as required by the Company and follow up on the development activities identified.
* Contribute to the monthly and quarterly commercial forecast and reporting for your section of works.
* Ensure that comprehensive records of all resources employed on additional works are maintained and submitted for signature within 24 hours of the work being carried out.
* Complete Observation cards if you observe something unsafe, damaging to the environment, or good enough to share with others. Encourage others to complete the same.
* Produce waste reconciliation sheets on delivered materials within your work section and compare with tender allowances.
* Attend and participate in daily safety briefings, activity plan briefings, and tool box talks.
