Job overview
Sunflower House is a well-established Tier 4 children’s mental health inpatient service and part of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. It is commissioned by NHS England to provide specialist assessment, treatment, T4 Consultation, and Multi-Disciplinary opinion across Cheshire, Wirral, and Merseyside.
We are an inpatient mental health facility, designed to help children and young people up to the age of 13 years with:
* A primary diagnosis of mental illness including children with neurodevelopmental disorders (ASD and mild/borderline co-morbid learning difficulties), physical disabilities or those with social care problems as secondary needs.
* Severe and complex needs that cannot be safely managed within Tier 3 CAMHS.
* Severe and complex needs that cannot be adequately assessed within a Tier 3 environment.
* May require detention under the Mental Health Act.

Main duties of the job
The service is looking to recruit permanent Band 6 Team Coordinators.
The Team Co-Ordinator role will provide:
* Leadership and support to a group of clinical staff including nurses, healthcare support workers, and trainees.
* Care for young people up to age 13 presenting with complex and comorbid mental health difficulties.
* Clinical and day-to-day operational experience and leadership across the shift.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Skills
* Demonstrate ability to engage proactively with patients and their families/carers/significant others to build positive working alliances.
* Ability to work with assessed needs embracing the wishes of the patient within a Tier 4 specialist CAMHS inpatient setting.
* Able to make systematic and comprehensive assessment/re-assessment of patient need in conjunction with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
* Able to facilitate assessment of Carer’s needs and implement appropriate support plans.
* Demonstrates the skills and knowledge essential for developing nursing risk management plans.
* Has up-to-date knowledge and skills in relation to role and responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Actively engages with the Case manager under CPA to identify appropriate resources to support the patient’s care package.
* Works to develop effective multidisciplinary relationships through skilled communication.
* Shows ability to effectively evaluate plans of care in collaboration with the patient.
* Work as a Senior Nurse in a Unit area ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
* Applies relevant policies and statutory requirements within the unit and hospital framework.
* Respects and applies the requirements of equality and diversity.
* Acts as a role model to promote a culture of learning development vision.
* Implements, monitors, and evaluates therapeutic interventions within an overall care programme.
* Is named nurse for a small group of patients and acts as Associate nurse for colleagues.
* Work alongside the Case Manager, acting as an associate in the coordination of care.
* Provides Clinical and managerial Supervision to a group of defined nursing staff.
* Undertakes Lead roles for the unit as agreed with the Matron.
* Deputises for the Matron/Service lead as required.
* Adheres to all National and local standards, policies, and procedures.
* Demonstrates expertise in analysing and reflecting upon clinical practice.
* Supports the Matron/Service lead in developing sustainable services.
* Promote and introduce systems to continuously improve quality of care.
* Engages in the assessment of Children as part of the Units responsibility.
Leadership Skills
* Actively works with the Matron and service lead to implement the vision for Tier 4 inpatient care.
* Actively engages in the clinical audit process and local audit projects.
* Acts as a role model in the clinical arena for other staff.
* Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective clinical and managerial supervision.
* Actively involved in Service Improvement initiatives.
Management Skills
* Demonstrates the commitment to develop the range of skills required to deputise for the Matron.
* Demonstrates effective time management and ability to prioritise competing demands.
* Is cognisant of the policy and procedural guidance following a Serious Untoward Incident.
* Shows awareness of the major national policy initiatives influencing care delivery.
* Keeps up to date with legislation and evidence-based practice.
* Identifies deficits in skill mix and safe staffing levels.
* Demonstrates interest and enthusiasm for developing mentoring relationships.
* Follows professional guidelines and Codes of Practice as laid down by the NMC.
* To actively participate in an annual performance review and the development of a personal development plan.
* Will be required to be on call for the unit at the direction of the Matron or Service lead.

Person specification
Essential / Desirable
* Registered RMN/LD Nurse (Currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council).
* Or registered Paediatric Nurse with additional training and experience within an Inpatient mental health setting.
* Substantial post registration clinical, leadership, and managerial experience.
* Effective advanced communication skills and interpersonal skills.
* Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity.
* Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team.
* Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of clinical practice.
* Evidence of further professional and leadership training.
* Post registration qualification in CAMHs or equivalent.
* Extensive experience of caring for children in MH Inpatient setting.
* Previous experience developing a nursing team.
* Experience of undertaking audits.
* Evidence of working with learners.
* IT literate.
