Learn to lead.
Are you a quick thinker? Calm under pressure, with a curious mind? Officers are at the heart of everything the Army does – making split-second decisions in critical situations, commanding some of the best soldiers in the world on the front line, on land, sea or in the air. There are many different full-time Officer roles in the Army, and each one plays a vital part in our success, at home and overseas.
If you’ve got the potential, drive and determination, we’ll provide you with all the training and transferrable skills you need to lead from the front.
Start the adventure of a lifetime.
During your training at Sandhurst, you’ll be an Officer Cadet, earning £31,305 a year. As you progress through our ranks, this will rise to £44,457 for a Captain, and £55,999 when you become a Major. Army officer pay is in line with other graduate jobs.
You’ll also receive 30 days’ annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and free gym and sports facilities. And unless you're away on operations or training exercises, you'll normally work 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Your Responsibilities
As an entry-level Officer, you’ll start your career in a position of management, commanding responsibility for your team of soldiers. You don’t need any experience to apply – through world-class training at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, you’ll develop the transferrable leadership skills and qualifications you need to motivate and support your team.
Outside the Royal Military Academy, you’ll continue to learn and grow through adventurous training and international travel. Being an Officer is a global adventure, whether you’re leading expeditions, running operations abroad, or delivering humanitarian aid to communities in need.
