Next is looking to recruit an Indirect Tax Assistant Manager within the Group Tax function, which sits within the wider Group Finance department, located at our Head office in Enderby Leicestershire. The role of the Indirect Tax Assistant Manager will be to help ensure compliance with UK and wider global VAT/GST/Indirect tax legislation.
Key responsibilities:
1. Preparation/review of our UK group VAT return, VAT payments and ensuring accurate and timely processing
2. Review of our overseas VAT & sales tax returns and maintaining relationships with our overseas advisors
3. Preparation of our partial exemption special method and ongoing audit of the method
4. Support and actively contribute to the governance and management of the VAT processes for the group to ensure best practice is maintained and operating procedures are up to date
5. Support the Group Indirect Tax manager in the preparation of a new BRSA and then ongoing review of the BRSA
6. Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the wider business to ensure that VAT and related matters are updated and aligned with changes in the business.
7. Assist the Indirect Tax Manager and Head of Tax in ensuring that wider finance and business understand changes in indirect tax and the implications for their work
8. Review of key balance sheet reconciliations for the indirect tax accounts
9. Maintain good work relationships with external auditors, seeking relevant technical advice where relevant
Key Skills and Qualifications
1. Recently qualified accountant/tax advisor with indirect tax experience of 3+ years.
2. Knowledge of tax accounting and tax compliance
3. Understanding of retail businesses is useful but not essential
4. Experience of UK business and some exposure to International issues is preferable
5. The ability to meet deadlines, solve problems with strong analytical skills with detail orientation
6. Comfortable dealing with employees from different parts of the business
7. Proactive, ambitious and having excellent business partnering skills
