We have an exciting opportunity for a print assistant to join our busy team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful applicant will work closely with the design and print manager and the design team to learn and develop this dynamic new role.
The work is varied and the role requires knowledge of both PC and Mac platforms to achieve all aspects of print production, from print buying and client liaison to amending artwork and checking proofs. The ability to follow brand guidelines and work on multiple projects to meet tight deadlines is essential.

Main duties of the job
A good working knowledge of print production is essential as you will assist the print manager and the graphic design team in establishing customer's requirements, consulting with external printers and any other stakeholders in the timely supply of printed material.
Applicants must be versatile and be able to shift priorities according to demand.
The successful applicant will be expected to use both Macintosh and PC platforms and be competent in creating, refreshing, and reviewing existing artwork using a range of professional software (including InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), in accordance with local and national NHS corporate brand guidelines.
The role requires a team player who works well with others and can communicate complex or complicated information effectively with internal clients and vendors to achieve department objectives.
The job holder will be skilled in creating print specifications, negotiating costs, and using job management software to process jobs smoothly and cost effectively.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Assist the Design and Print Manager with print management, using MID databases and updating and development of artwork, proofing and sign-off sometimes to tight deadlines.
* Assist the Print and Design Manager with the operational management of the MID Poster Bureau service, ensuring timely production and delivery of scientific posters, interpreting clinician's requirements, and communicating information to meet customer's deadlines.
* Utilise multiple management information systems for raising orders and tracking workflow.
* Consult with clients to discuss and identify their printing needs, promoting the Trusts strategy for the management of clinical documents and contribute to evolving current and future printing procedures and practices in house and externally.
* Ensure a strong customer services focus, performing and projecting a professional image. With a positive 'can do' attitude, the post holder must develop good working relationships with all relevant internal customers and strategic suppliers.
* Demonstrate their knowledge of print management as well as governance, copyright and consent issues and be aware of procurement policies and ordering process.
* Ensure close liaison with the Procurement Team regarding ordering and requisitions.
* Work directly under the supervision of the Design and Print Manager and expected to discuss and arrange daily workload, accounting for demands and priorities of the department, this will involve frequent interruption and changing priorities.
* Assist the Design and Print Manager with proof-reading all materials before being sent to print, obtaining author sign-offs in accordance with Department Standard Operating Standards (SOPs) and support checking printer proofs with customers before final print.
* Assist the Design and Print Manager with the technical operation of networked printers and the management of consumables ensuring these are always in good supply to meet demand.
* Send documents to the in-house printer when low level print qualities are required, ensuring booklets, leaflets and posters are printed correctly, packaged, and delivered to the customer.
* Support the maintenance of the in-house Printers through liaison with support contractors and IT services for network requirements and first line error identification.
* Support the Design and Print Manager in managing and archiving artwork and DTP files using local and networked back-up solutions.
* Demonstrate a good working knowledge of the whole of MIDs function and inter-connecting services to advise customers seeking to use MID services.
Person Specification
Skills
* Ability to use Desk Top Packages (DTP) for basic design work for Artwork creation and modification.
* Ability to use Adobe creative suite (Mac based) to create, or amend in-house design - Confident in using Adobe Acrobat Pro.
* Advanced keyboard skills: Ability to use Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, PowerPoint and Office or European Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent knowledge.
* High level of IT skills and proven computer-literacy including ability to identify basic IT issues and liaise with IT service teams.
* Request competitive quotes from multiple suppliers and assist in organising quick Print turnaround and evaluate supplier performance.
* Assist and plan the procurement of print materials either using in house printer facilities or external print suppliers - Printing all documents efficiently and economically.
* Analyse requests/information to achieve the most cost-effective solutions.
* Be able to deliver a project on time and within budget.
* Support in house printer maintenance and report network and basic IT systems faults where necessary to rectify in a reasonable timescale with 3rd party contract suppliers.
Experience
* Significant experience in art working role or design and print communications role.
* Experience in print buying and liaison with external print suppliers.
Knowledge
* Understand print specifications.
* Purchase ordering and systems.
* Print production and colour processes inc CMYK.
* A good knowledge of printing terms and artwork requirements.
* Knowledge of one or more computer system(s), hardware, or software.
* Sourcing print for promotional items.
* Understanding of NHS systems and procurement software.
* The postholder will assist in supporting the design and production of both printed and electronically published materials ensuring that all comply to corporate visual identity.
Qualifications
* Good level of general education including English and Maths at GCSE A - C or equivalent, on new exam grading system of Grade 5 or above.
* HND or NVQ (Level 5) in Graphics or Design and Communications or above, marketing or business studies or extensive experience in a comparable role.
* Microsoft Office certification for Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

* The ability to work cheerfully and effectively as part of a team, under pressure, to meet constant deadlines.
* Ability to work with a high level of concentration and effort often where work patterns are unpredictable and interrupted.
* Concentration required when checking information and when answering queries from staff, customers.
