About the College
Northumberland College is the only college in the county serving the communities of Northumberland, offering a diverse curriculum from Entry level to Level 6, discrete SEND provision, and Apprenticeships. We have three campuses based in Berwick, Ashington, and Kirkley Hall. In October 2024, we achieved an Outstanding rating from Ofsted, in addition to being the top Performing Land based College in the Northeast. Over recent years, the College has invested over £14 million in new facilities at its sites, including a £2.5 million STEM Centre at its Ashington campus which is set to become the first pathfinder Gen zero FE College in the UK in 2025/2026.
About the role
An outstanding opportunity has arisen to join the top performing college in the North East of England. As we strengthen and develop leadership capacity across our Ashington provision, we are seeking an exceptional individual to join an exceptional organisation, who can support the Head of Department and Associate Principal in the development of the Health and Sport Sciences provision. With responsibility for curriculum design and development, oversight of employer engagements, and the ability to lead a team, we are looking for someone to help take the current offer to the next level. As we plan our move to a state of the art, gen zero new build in 2026, there has never been a better time to join the only college supporting the communities of Northumberland.
About the Candidate
Self-starting, motivated, and passionate about making a difference to the lives and communities we serve, it would be beneficial for you to have a proven track record in FE and/or HE; however, this is not essential as we would welcome applications from health practitioners and people working in the health industry. If this is you, full training would be provided along with enrolment onto relevant teaching qualifications (for which a commitment to complete must be received). With a background in health (nursing, midwifery) or allied medical professions, you will know what it takes to be an outstanding operator in the world of health and/or sport sciences, meeting the needs of all relevant stakeholders. You will understand (or be quick to learn) pedagogical principles and will demonstrate these in weekly teaching, leading the team from the front in innovation and engagement. With a keen eye for detail, commitment to grow provision, and seize opportunities, you will be at the forefront of the next steps for the college and campus.
What’s in it for you?
* Enjoy a generous holiday allowance (35-48 days per year, plus public holidays).
* Generous family leave and flexible working options (dependent on role).
* LGPS or Teacher Pensions Scheme (dependent on role 15.7% - 28.68%).
* Access to myLifestyle benefits platform providing retail discounts and more.
* We offer dental, eye care & health cash plans.
* Extensive wellbeing support through a dedicated Wellbeing Adviser, and a digital Wellbeing Hub that offers a broad range of support for physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.
* Free parking on most campuses.
As an employer, we prioritize cultivating a supportive and inclusive workplace culture, where our staff can thrive and grow. We recognize that our employees are our greatest asset, and we are deeply committed to investing in their professional development and overall wellbeing.
We believe in equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
We are committed to PREVENT and safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
Due to the nature of this post, you will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure Check.
