Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire (CSW) Resilience Team
Fixed term until 31st August 2025
We have an opportunity available for a Joint Emergency Planning Officer to join our Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire (CSW) Resilience Team on a fixed term basis.
As a Joint Emergency Planning Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting emergency planning and business continuity activities across our combined sub-region and support resilience planning within the District & Borough Councils of Warwickshire.
The CSW Resilience Team are responsible for writing plans which help ensure that Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire councils are ready to respond to any emergencies which happen in their area. From flood response to setting up emergency rest centres, we make sure every council makes the right preparations to keep delivering their key functions during disruptions. What’s more, we train staff and run regular exercises using realistic scenarios, so the councils really are ready for anything.
As a Joint Emergency Planning Officer, you will:
* Maintain and develop both the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire arrangements for civil contingencies as well as managing arrangements within your dedicated District & Borough Council as part of a joint resilience service.
* Ensure Councils are equipped to cope with both ‘big bang’ emergencies and ‘rising tide’ situations, in which the challenges escalate over time.
* Take a lead on emergency planning and readiness.
* Work with expert colleagues, council employees and representatives of other agencies to deliver a varied and flexible work programme.
* Actively promote awareness and ownership of each council’s civil contingency arrangements.
In the event of an incident, you will work with the team to provide a 24/7 response service and be on our emergency duty rota one week in every four-week period.
We are looking for someone who has:
* A degree (or completing final academic year) in Emergency Planning, Disaster Management or a similar subject, or an appropriate level of specialist knowledge obtained through extended experience and training within an emergency planning, emergency services, military or similar environment.
* Experience of responding to emergencies and incidents or participating in similar exercises.
* Detailed knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act and Business Continuity ISO 22301.
* Strong organisation, with project management and decision-making skills.
* A proven ability to engage and communicate with a range of stakeholders.
In return, this is a hugely valued and rewarding role providing a crucial support service across the region. Working for Solihull means that we can also offer employees training and development opportunities, flexible and agile working options, an extensive wellbeing offer as well as attractive staff discounts and benefits including a career average pension scheme.
