We are looking for an experienced Senior Composite Design Engineer to be an effective part of the team responsible for the scheme, design, testing and development stages of varied composite components within our Composite Design group.
This role demands ownership of large-scale projects, requiring close collaboration with the Lead Engineer to deliver projects efficiently and on time. You will work with other Composite Design groups and mentor junior team members while contributing to a variety of projects, ensuring optimal design, manufacturing, and performance of components. Your expertise will be essential in optimising component design for structural integrity and efficient use of mass.
Responsibilities:
1. To develop design schemes from preliminary concept for component design, assemblies and associated jigs, patterns and tooling.
2. To surface components and define/review laminate specification booklets.
3. To provide first response follow-up support on projects during assembly, testing and development.
4. To champion practical solutions to resolve issues arising from testing and development, utilising the resources available within the group.
5. To proactively contribute in developing, implementing and improving design concepts.
6. To support the Lead Engineer in all aspects of the group's responsibilities and workload, including interaction with other departments.
7. To ensure appropriate delegation of work to progress projects efficiently through the group.
8. To maintain and develop skill levels to industry standard and maintain thorough and current working knowledge of composite design.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
1. Educated to Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level in Mechanical, Automotive or Motorsport Engineering or related field. Preference will be given for any specific studies relating to Composite Engineering.
2. Extensive previous experience of producing high level design schemes and detailed drawings of complex CFRP assemblies to a demanding schedule in a motorsport/high performance sector.
3. Proficiency in the use of 3D CAD systems, ideally with good working knowledge of CATIA and demonstrable working knowledge of both solid and surfacing modelling techniques.
4. Excellent working knowledge of CFRP component design including material selection, laminate specification manual creation, cure and bond requirements, tooling strategies, jigging requirements, etc.
5. Possess an innovative and flexible approach to creative problem solving, new disciplines and environments.
6. Proven record of working in a collaborative environment, communicating effectively, and progressing multiple projects concurrently.
