Role and Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Design to lead our design team in crafting engaging, immersive, and memorable gameplay experiences. As the Head of Design, you will work closely with our co-development partners and internal teams to ensure that our projects align with the creative direction, meet player expectations, and achieve a high standard of quality. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in game design, a collaborative mindset, and exceptional leadership abilities.
Responsibilities:
* Drive the overall design vision for all co-development & internal projects, aligning with the creative directors defined vision & direction.
* Provide strategic insights and guidance on game mechanics, level design, systems, and player experience.
* Establish & reinforce design pillars, documentation, and processes that ensure clarity, consistency, and high standards throughout the design team across the studio.
* Lead, mentor, and inspire the leads and senior designers, fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and continuous learning.
* Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and development of design talent, ensuring the team has the skills and resources needed to excel.
* Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear objectives, and support career development for team members.
* Act as the primary design liaison with our co-development partners, ensuring alignment on creative direction, project scope, and design deliverables.
* Collaborate with producers, artists, engineers, and other cross-functional teams to ensure a cohesive and unified approach to game development.
* Actively participate in design and milestone reviews with internal teams, incorporating feedback and iterating on designs to meet project requirements.
* Oversee & review the entire design process across all projects, from concept to final implementation, ensuring projects meet quality standards, deadlines, and budget constraints.
* Conduct regular playtests and design evaluations, using data-driven insights and player feedback to optimize gameplay and improve user experience.
* Establish and maintain design documentation, ensuring it is clear, comprehensive, and up to date.
* Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in game design and development.
* Foster a culture of experimentation and innovation, encouraging the team to explore new ideas and push creative boundaries.
* Represent Flix Interactive at industry events, conferences, and panels, building our reputation as a leader in game design.
Requirements:
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in game design, with a proven track record in a senior or lead design role within the gaming industry, preferably with experience in co-development.
* Strong leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to mentor, inspire, and develop talent.
* Deep understanding of game design principles, including gameplay mechanics, level design, systems design, and player experience.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas and foster collaborative relationships with internal teams and external partners.
* Proficient with industry-standard game design tools and software.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven design decisions and adapt to changing project needs.
* A genuine passion for gaming and a deep understanding of various gaming genres and player expectations.
* Experience in pitch deck creation and presenting.
