Position Summary:
The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing and managing the engineering & quality team that focuses on mechanical design, quality assurance, and CNC manufacturing processes. This role involves leading a cross-functional team to ensure product design integrity, quality standards, and efficient CNC operations. The Director of Engineering will collaborate with various departments, such as production, sales, quality, and materials, to drive continuous improvement and optimize processes.

Team Leadership and Development:
* Provide structure and guidance to our small but highly skilled engineering team and quality group enhancing both performance and professional growth.
* Act as a member of the Swift Filters Leadership Team to drive strategic business decisions and strengthen the company culture.
* Develop and manage KPIs for the engineering and quality department. Review and provide feedback on the designs of team members.
* Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
* Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide coaching, and identify training needs.
Engineering Oversight:
* Oversee the design, build and programming of operational equipment, including Mazak CNC machines, welding equipment, laser systems, automated filing robots and pleating machines for improved processes and development of new products and components.
* Troubleshoot design-related issues and make necessary changes/adjustments. Oversee and/or build prototypes as needed, testing and approval of designs.
* Conduct equipment validation studies, ensuring that they consistently achieve defined rates of production with minimal scrap rates.
* Ensure that all mechanical designs meet specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements.
* Collaborate with production, sales team, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth product development and manufacturing transitions.
* Work closely with sales and business development to provide technical expertise during customer interactions, proposals, and project planning.
* Act as the technical point of contact for customer-specific solutions, ensuring that all requirements are clearly calibrated and addressed.
* Utilize Global Shop ERP system to ensure accurate creation; develop, modify, and maintain BOMs, Routers, drawing and inspection form document control, etc.
* Develop and maintain organizational structure of engineering folder & files on server to include specifications, drawings, and technical manuals.
* Ensure that all engineering activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
Quality Assurance Management:
* Ensure quality program results in quality metrics being met and ISO 9001:2015 standards are executed.
* Develop and enforce quality standards, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
* Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues, and work to minimize defects and ensure product reliability.
CNC Manufacturing and Process Optimization:
* Coordinate with CNC Manager the CNC programming and machining processes to ensure precision, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Coordinate with CNC Manager to ensure manufacturing capabilities can produce part specifications and dimensions.
* Develop and implement CNC strategies, including tooling, programming, and process flow optimization.
* Evaluate and recommend new CNC technologies and equipment to improve capabilities and throughput.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on enhancing product design, manufacturing processes, and operational efficiencies.
* Support and/or implement lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other process improvement techniques to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
Project Management:
* Manage engineering projects from concept to production, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. In addition, manage labor, equipment, tooling, and materials for projects.
* Coordinate with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and internal teams, to define project requirements and deliverables. Support and collaborate with sales team and production to develop quotes and estimates for new business.
* Lead the management review and pipeline meeting. Prepare and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and status reports.
Budget and Resource Management:
* Develop and manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
* Monitor and control expenses while maintaining a high standard of engineering excellence.
Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with workplace safety guidelines and adhere to safety rules at all times wearing proper PPE required for tasks being performed and following all Company policies. Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions as required.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment at all times.

Qualifications:
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, quality assurance, and CNC manufacturing.
* At least 3-5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Skills:
* Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
* Proficiency in CNC programming, CAD/CAM software, and mechanical design tools.
* In-depth knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, etc.).
* Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a strategic and customer-focused mindset.
* Excellent project management and organizational skills.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Work Environment:
* Work is primarily performed in an office and manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
* Occasional travel may be required for meetings with suppliers, customers, or other company locations.
Physical Requirements:

* Good eyesight to be able to see small print and technical drawings
