The Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) is a 30 bedded mixed sex general surgical ward taking elective and emergency patients.
We also take direct patient referrals from G.P's /Paramedics. If you are motivated and keen to learn, this is the environment for you. It is challenging, but rewarding. You will be supporting the trained nurses in delivering patient care. Alongside SAU we also run an ambulatory clinic (SACC) which you may have to help cover, working a 9 -5 shift on occasion alongside a specialist nurse. Our aim is to provide the highest quality patient care in a happy work environment.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertake assessment of admissions as allocated by nurse in charge.
2. Work independently within the clearly defined boundaries of the Registered Nursing Associate competencies and scope of practice.
3. Work with Registered Practitioners in the provision of nursing care for patients in the Surgical Assessment Unit.
4. Carry out clinical tasks through admission to discharge in a safe effective manner.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* Foundation Degree Assistant Practitioner
* Further education and training related to surgical nursing
Experience
* Minimum two years working as Level 3 NVQ within acute surgery.
* Experience working in other disciplines within health.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
* An understanding of the effects of illness or injury on physical, psychological and social function.
* Ability to react calmly and decisively in an emergency.
