The Vacancy
What is the role
To implement the sourcing and buying strategy for a given range of product, owning and supporting the delivery of agreed target KPI’s. Working in partnership with merchandisers and the garment tech team to plan and balance the range. Junior Buyers will have responsibility for a specific range or a product category with the guidance of an experienced Buyer.
What you will do
Main Areas of Accountability:
1. Plan a commercial range with the Buyer or Product manager
2. Ensure that supply base has the capability to meet requirements
3. Negotiate with suppliers for best price whilst maintaining product integrity and standards in production
4. Understand and contribute towards brand and product handwriting
5. Ensure that agreed levels of good, better and best product are bought
6. Review competitor activity and regularly assess price architecture
7. Meet deadlines within the buying calendar and adhere to the critical path
8. Set clear performance standards to self and team members
9. Present the range in Trading, selection, sign off and review meetings
10. Understand profit and intake margin strategy focussing on achieved target margin
11. Actively trade the department, review commitment against current sales performance and set action plan accordingly
12. Work with garment tech team to take joint responsibility for fit and quality
13. Regularly visit stores and work closely with retail colleagues
14. Work across supply base / buying team to source and develop new product opportunities
15. Secure dates for product sign-off at appropriate points in the season
16. Oversee the critical path management for the department
Additional Accountabilities:
17. Assist in driving marketing and trading activity via e-commerce campaigns & POS
18. Ensure Competency Reviews are completed and Personal Development plans are developed and kept live with the buying team
19. Undertake project work when required
20. Develop and share best practise across the buying floor
21. Ensure that communication of issues and developments to the Buying Manager is timely, consistent and in the appropriate format
